I got a new Beck/Arnley (not reman) water pump and the impellor is different than the old one I took off.
The old one is closed impellor design and new one is open impellor. If that makes sense.
Wich one is best and what did orig Ford look like?
Thanxs.

By closed, you mean the back side of the impeller has a solid disk on it instead of it being just blades, right? The "closed" design is much more efficient at pumping water than thhe open design. I have seen kits in Summit / Jegs catalogs that have a metal disk and a few rivits to convert an open type to a closed type.

Speaking or water pumps, has anyone ever tried an electric water pump? Do they make one for our 2.3?

You can use an inline electric and cut impeller off old one.

The only thing I can thing of is that they used the open propeller design on the earlier ones and the closed one on the later cars

I used the open one anyway.
There was a rebuilt one that was disc type but I wanted to see if a new one lasts longer.
This one is made in Japan!LOL
