Wastegate stuck, can I fix/replace it?

My TC with the stock IHI has been overboosting, so I went ahead and got a Gillis valve to replace the stock BCS and a real boost gauge. However, that did not fix the problem, so I started actually trying to figure out what the problem was. After searching the board I found a number of posts on the subject, they can be generally summarized by this one: http://natomessageboard.com/Forum1/HTML/010555.html

I've hooked a bicycle pump and a pressure gauge up to the wastegate actuator and it will hold pressure and the wastegate control rod moved by a few thousandths of an inch 10 PSI are applied. I can feel the actuator rod is still connected to the pivot arm but I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to disconnect the pivot arm with the turbo still on the car. This may be a moot point anyway since the wastegate is almost certainly stuck.

This leads to my next question. Is there anyway to fix or replace the wastegate on the turbo?

Thanks in advance,

Assuming the WGA diaphram is trying to extend the rod when pressure is applied, then do the following. There is an E clip on the top side of the rod that holds it into the actuator. It a PITA. Don't let it go flying off [Image: biggrin.gif] (BTDT) Take the rod off the pivot are and see if you can move the pivot arm. It should move freely through at least a 45* arc. You can try the penetrating oil route to free it up. If that doesn't work you will have to take the elbow off the turbine housing to get access to the pivot arm in the turbine housing. You may even have to pull the turbo to clean it out and restore WG action.

Update,

After numerous soakings with penetrating oil the wastegate started to work again, yay! I never did figure out how to get the pivot arm disconnected. I'm trying to get to the thing from the top with the intercooler off. Should I have jacked up the car and tried to get at it from the bottom?

Thanks,

A small mirror and a pair of curved needle nosed pliers works great, been there, done that, oh, and a lot of light.
88 T/C 5speed. 3in.Downpipe,Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, Gillis valve on the way.

I don't mess with those factory clips any more, switch to a circular linkage clip several years ago works great! Using this style clip on my second bird with no issues (yet), found them on the rotating rack at my local auto store that has all the HELP! parts on them. #90093 comes with 4 clips two different sizes approx. 5.00 . There may be better clips out there this just happens to work well for me.
