Was going to tune and cruise...

I've been to busy to do anything to my car for a while, so I finally get a chance, and wanted to cruise around with some friends cars also.. and then before i even got a chance to tune (i swear it seems like it's always something that stops me from finish tuning...) all power cut off on 202 outside of king of prussia. Fortunately I was able to coast to an area that had a shoulder because of all the construction. The car seemed dead nothing had power. I go to unhook the battery and start seeing what's up with it and burned my finger since it was really hot. Managed to disconnect it, and major sparks!!! like I was welding and noticed balled up pieces of metal similar to when you weld... That's when I figured I shouldn't mess with it too much in case a fire could start... I hate calling a tow truck but I didn't have a meter and only a couple wrenches for the battery, and boostvalve. Turns out the alternator had a dead short of some kind. Unwired the alternator and everything worked as normal. In the process of getting Pa performance to return/fix and send me another one... Damn i just wanted to tune and drive it already, feels like I have something new to work on everytime I'm almost done tuning it!!! I actually conteplated selling it while I was sitting on the side of the road. Either I'm too stuborn, have to much will power, or just stupid for keeping this car. Ugh I hope it becomes roadworthy and half reliable soon!! I know it's old but man it can be a pain. Maybe next week I'll have some pics or progress of tuning, and if that works maybe some dyno numbers sometime soon since my friends shop has a dyno? I guess that was half rant half facts lol, but I guess the only people that can understand are the people on this forum!

keep on going with it, you made it this far, why stop now and regret selling it.
to be honest i bought my 3g 130amp alts from swap meets or junkyards and just put in new brushes and been good. my father even powder coated it for me.
your not the first ive heard have a issue with PA Perf.

keep on going post up some pictures.

Yea, no point in giving up over just a Faulty Alt, it happens to the best of us. Just keep on plugging away, eventually you will work out all the bugs from your ride, and it will be reliable. It would be a good idea to keep a fire extinguisher in the car from now on though. Imagine how you would have felt if the car would have burned to the ground right there, and you couldn't do anything but watch. I've seen it happen before to people that I know, and it ain't pretty.

Lol, pretty funny Rdog. Interesting Brian, this is the second time it will be replaced... didn't feel like spending any more money so figured I'd start with the replacement, they are fairly local to me so I'll see how that goes. Yeah I only thought that before I figured out what it was, and I spent about $1000 on cars doing the work myself that week between my girlfriends car and my 3 cars, in the middle of buying a house and it was just one of those moments on the side of the road where I was like I could just sell the 2 old cars and have less to deal with and more money.. or be unresponsable and buy a purpose built drift car. But winter will be here soon and I'll need my 4wd and whats the point of getting a place with a 2 car garage if I don't have something fun to work on in it lol! Funny enough the PECO tow truck driver monitoring the no shoulder construction zone said I've seen a lot of cars but I've never seen one of those lol. Then when a friend of a friend tow truck driver came to pick the car up he said he just sold his turbo coupe. Thought that was pretty funny. Someone always has something to say about these cars lol.

Just outta curiosity what exactly did you get from PA? Did you get the wire kit or the whole alternator kit or what? I wanna get into the 130 alt sometime next year and figured it would be easier to buy it from one company as a kit.

I actually forget. I followed the 3G alternator write up in the TC FAQ
