Vibration bad for the VAM?

I was reading a post over at turboford, and I read that a guy installed a metal pipe instead of the vam hose to the turbo. This guy stated that the vibration from the motor is bad for the VAM and it doesnt like it. He also said this is the reason for the rubber grommets on the mounts for the VAM to the body. I know I have my VAM just sitting on the bottom of the inner fender. the K&N is there so the stock air box is gone. and I always have crazy idle issues

that is an interesting question trash. i think you all are on to something. ive got mine zip tied to the fenderwell, and i have some funny idle issues too. especially with me having zero exaust(turndown after cat). i think im gonna put some of the bracket back in(modified of course) and see what happens. i want to run a cold air pipe for the filter to put it down in the front bumper so maybee ill do it all at once. good point. ill let you know if i finish first.

this is kinda like the question of why use a 255 lph pump if the t/c lines cant flow that much fuel....interesting. sometimes we get so mod happy that we do more harm than good.....oh well

turbo!

without disapointment, you cant appreciate victory, but victory would be nice every now and again.

That's why I use a modified stock bracket that retains the rubber isolators.

Quote: why use a 255 lph pump if the t/c lines cant flow that much fuel

Because as pressure rises, pump volume drops. The 255HP insures the volume will be there at elevated boost and fuel pressures.

useless info coming but. both my engines at the firehouse have switches or knobs to allow the pump to switch from volume to pressure. during a large building fire in which trucks can be setup to run relays from long distances an engine pumping in volume is more important then pressure. as to make sure the truck onscene is getting enough water if they were to be running multiple attack lines with the deck gun running as well. in which case the engine onscene would then be pumping in pressure.

back to the topic. yea i can understand why the vibration would mess with my car as that VAM door is very sensitive you bump it the car could drop idle almost like creating a vacuum leak. see my entire air cleaner assembly is missing so i will need to fab something up. plus i never liked it sitting on the inner fender anyway. jmthunderbirdturbo yes please post your results even if it is only a very minimal difference

If the VAM wasnt sensitive to vibration, the engineers that designed the car would have saved 25 cents per car and not bothered with the rubber isolation mounting.

Results, ok it is hard to say, before i changed anything yesterday though my idle was all over the place, sometiems it would drop so low so fast it would almost stall and it could go up to about 1500 rpms at a red light. the one vacuum hose from the intercooler to the turbo was broken so i fixed this as well. and i suspended my VAM in mid air via rubber mounts on the vam. The results wow not a stumble in the entire day i drove the car. the idle is high now so i need to set this and the TPS again but it doesnt budge just idles at around 1250 rpms all day. Ive attached a few pics of my home made mount i made out of a piece of aluminum 1"x4'. im sure the hose broken had an effect on the idle maybe but when i first ran the car when i replaced the HG the hose was on there fine and even the first day the idle was all over the place. so it does prove that VAM's dont like vibration
