My 86 TC nonhump VC is giving me fits! The darn breather is so loose and sometimes after a heavy bump it pops out. Is there a part number for a Valve cover grommet that I can use to make it a tight fit, making it less likely to pop out?

I don't know of one off hand. I use to use a little RTV around it to seal it in place. Just make sure you clean off as much oil as possible.

Another idea you might want to try is relocating it. After a while I did this to mine. I tapped the cam cover and put a nipple/AN fitting in, then ran a hose off and to a high point. If your car has blow by or a lot of boost, you might want to consider running a small catch can instead. This will help keep the engine bay cleaner...

...so you have a V8...isn't that cute...

You might be able to make a quick rig by finding a thin piece of hose to fit the breather and in between the grommet. I did something like this to make an adapter to the new breather setup I have.

^^^^ Thats exactly what I did about 10 years ago. Still working perfect and no oil leaks at all onto the VC.

I have the exact same issue on my 84s breather. It's so loose it jiggles. I have the ICA connector running over the top of it, which seems to hold it in place quite well.

One of my concerns about it being loose was the fact that it was losing metered air to the atmosphere which is the main reason I started using silicone to seal it up. I think the early ones were poorly designed since there is no real "seal" there. The later ones, I believe, have a larger hole in the VC and a rubber grommet to keep everything sealed up.

[color:#FF0000]blchill[/color] - when did you find one at rock auto? I've never seen them on there. And also - you've been here for two years and are just now making your first post??? Confusedtickpoke:

It is under the emissions tab as PCV Valve/Crankcase ventilation grommet.

Sorry about the lack of posts. I usually don't have much to say. I would like to say I appreciate the amount of knowledge you can find on this site about these cars. I would have NEVER been able to put mine together without it. It's not in my signature, but I have a red 88 turbocoupe with the charcoal interior and manual transmission. It is a blast to drive, and a headache to find parts for.
Finally have car all together and enjoying the boost.
