VAT codes 24 and 54

The car I'm buying has these codes KOEO, didn't have the time to check KOER.

Also has an ABS light, but didn't have the stuff to pull ABS codes. Brakes worked fine though. The owner said that the ABS light came on when I pulled the codes.

What could be causing the 24 and 54? The engine running hot? I did notice the fan had a switch wired, and the temperature gauge was disconnected.

Is the temp sensor inside of the VAM?

Ryan

EDIT: Sorry, car is an 88 5 speed.

Those codes are for the ACT sensor (Air Charge Temperature) sensor, not the VAT.

i think you got the definitions from the EEC chart on this site. That is one of the mistakes on that chart. Not sure where it came from, but some of Ford's codes for the 2.3L differ from the chart that Nato has.

Any chance you could email me a copy of the right chart? I could REALLY use one, as I'm tired of assuming the wrong thing from the chart in the tech articles lol

Anyone? The car was off and the large fan is wired to a switch that goes inside the car. The switch was on when we did the KOEO so I figured it might pull some sort of fan code, but didn't. It gave me a 24 and 54, and I don't know what those are [Image: frown.gif]

Anyone? I'd really like a copy of the code manual or something if possible. My Haynes manual doesn't have a code list either [Image: frown.gif]

If someone doesn't send you the procedure before i do later this evening, i will send you what to check for on those codes. They are in fact ACT sensor codes, not VAT codes. There is no question about it.

The fan being "hot wired" should not set any code. Did you ask why the owner has a manual switch on the fan and the temp gauge sender disconnected? The owner could have just thought the engine was running too hot based on inaccurate stock gauges so they used a manual switch, but to unhook the gauge giving the owner no indication (ballpark figure) of what the temperature is running at seems strange.

i would not be too considered about the ACT sensor code itself unless you also had some ECT, VAF, TPS codes as well? Does this vehicle run?

I thought the same about the disconnected temp gauge. I didn't think of the manual fan switch being related until after I left Florida to return home.

The car runs great, pulls hard, just needs a new clutch and some minor interior work (I'm just gonna swap mine) and some rust spots need to be removed and there is a rust hole in the top of the driver side of the hood where the door weatherstripping goes. The guy said the car sat a long time and I'm assuming water filled the door crack and stayed there long enough to rust it out...

I figure even if there *is* an overheating issue, the fan is wired and the entire 6 hour trip home is going to be interstate speed. The car doesn't detonate as far as I know, if it is, it isn't doing it audibly. And the guy drove 2 and a half hours to meet us with it.

I figure I'll swap gauges and stuff and see whats up with the temperature when I get home. The guy said after the clutch, he'll guarantee me that it drives back alright. I'm gonna get that in writing though [Image: wink.gif]
