Guys, I was told that the Vam has to lay flat for in to perform well, but I see guys having them hanging downward, upside down, sideways- you get my drift. Does it really matter which way the VAM sits for it to work best? I would think that witha weak spring the VAM door would have problems snapping back if its facing downward.

Every OEM application of the VAM I have seen (BMW, Mazda, Escort GT, etc, etc) have had the VAM mounted near horizontal (as well as rubber isolated from vibration). I am guessing there is a reason for both of these. I havent tried it, but gravity has to have an effect on the VAM door, altering the transfer function, but I have no idea how much.

I'm trying to help someone solve his issues with his motor, and here is the pic of his motor..
http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t97/b...ssetup.jpg
This is what he wrote me "Overall cranks /runs good..After warmup & driven a while,it has this intermittent, momentary idle "stumble",almost stalls, corrects itself ,idles up, then comes back to good idle.

On cold startup, goes on fast idle, if you let it sit and warm up (in Neutral) idle speed will then start coming down, but when it gets slightly warm the idles "hunts" up & down..After engine is at normal temp,if you pick up the throttle ,anything above idle it "hunts"(idling in Neutral) Does not stumble when accelerating from a stop. Cruise/constant speed is good, occasionally will stall when coming to a stop..

On a cold start it goes into fast idle,..I let it idle a few seconds, blip throttle ,idle speed lowers and it drives off ok..no stumbles/stalls
Seems to be in some sort of cold drive strategy'

I think the tps could be the issue (He has it set at .96) or bad/dirty IAC. But also his VAM is positioned downward too, and I just cant see it performing well like that.Just want some insight from you guys
