Vam Adjustment

When adjusting the vam there are two contact areas on the copper pointer. Does it matter if one goes off of the strip when the door is all the way open. Those who have messed with it know what Im talking about. To get the needle to go all of the way on the strip it seems that you have to have one of those points go off the strip. right now both are touching t the max of adjustability.

I have done the vam adjustment and will advise you to leave it alone. I reset mine back to stock very quickly. If you feel you have to mess with it then make sure you mark the stock settings so you can return it to them when it gets worse.
NO TC and NO headaches.

I adjusted mine just a bit with the pointer and 1 click looser on the spring. Everything seems fine and I seem to be running just a bit richer (thats what I wanted). I just wanted to know if I should go more with the pointer and if thats what I should do. I figure if only one of those dots is touching it should be fine but I still cant help but get that hesitant feeling. The whole reason for this is I think I hear detonation in 3rd (automatic car) but it could be my wastegate blowing open and clanking. This sound is very intermittant and not constant at all (yes I have the knock sensor disconnected) This wouldexplain also my low boost limit of 16 with the damn boost line disconnected from the actuator. BTW my base fuel pressure is 42 vac line off.

Many people will suggest not messing with the VAM.. The contact going all the way off deffinently sounds like bad news to me. I'm not 100% if it will even be consider at WOT above 4K though...

The hesitation may very well be the extra fuel the EEC dumps in at WOT. If you got WOT detonation for lack of fuel you should be running the fuel system diagnostics to find out why. Three things you don't do in life: 1 spit into the wind, 2. mess with Big Jim and 3. Screw with the VAM [Image: biggrin.gif]

Be sure to follow the instructions and when yioou get to it, do the last one driving the car

Heh. There are some of us who weren't raised on "Warm 105 Your Soothing Days Music". I'll never forget the 2nd semester of property rights law...where we studied the case of Jim Croce's wife suing for royalties owed after he died... I let everyone in the class call him "krausee" for about 2 weeks. It came to a head when some snotty business major said "well I'VE never heard any of his music it couldn't have been worth THAT!". I pointed out the diamonds and perfume she was wearing, and that cute little suv she drove were all sold with his music, and his - as well as many other's - estates would have not seen a dime otherwise. A blushing blond is a sight to see.

Oh yeah. Good luck on the VAM.
