I read on another forum that the 88 Fox V8 Motor Mounts are the same as the 88 Turbo Coupe. I haven’t checked rockauto, etc. but in the mean time, is there anyone that could confirm or deny this? Thanks
88 Turbo Coupe: Front mount intercooler, MGW short throw shifter, full coilover conversion, tubular control arms front and rear, svo front brakes, vacuum assist brake swap, manual steering swap, GT35R turbo with external gate, pimpx ecu, 60lb injectors, 3 core aluminum radiator, Boport 1.5 cam, gutted upper, corbeau fixed back seats, and the list goes on.

AFAIK, they are completely different. If they were the same, no one with a TC would be searching the web for days looking for a good used set of TC mounts.

Two pieces of advice here:

1) the Manual would have you believe that there are two distinctly different ones, left and right. In fact, the ones I got were identical, and installed the same way. I’ll have to dig out the info on the ones I got, but I’ve had them now for 2+ years and have had no complaints. Still...

2) You should probably invest in the custom made ones from Chuck Warren, who makes them by hand in batches. Problem is, his site no longer exists (www.turbochuck.com), so I wonder if he’s still around. Spoiler alert: they are a bit on the pricey side, but it’s not something you should be skimping on by not getting good quality ones.

If you search our site you’ll find numerous posts about how great his mounts are. I had already ordered the ones I got (not from Chuck) on eBay before I learned of his, but if they’re still available I’d likely go with those if I ever had to replace what I have.

1987 Turbo Coupe w/T5OD, 8.8 axle, grey smoke; most options. Got it in 1991 with 41K miles: 3 turbos, 2 heater cores, 3 T5OD full rebuilds, 6 clutches, 1 head gasket, 2 Teves II ABS units, etc. later....

I've been in touch with Chuck and he no longer produces the mounts.

As an FYI to everyone on this forum, andrewjs18 is working with another individual on reproducing previously obsolete parts for our cars. Their website is https://tbirdcougarparts.com/ and they sell motor mounts and the trans mount. I've purchased both

thanks all.

Heath is working on some V8 motor mounts and should hopefully have something ready within the next month or so. I think he's also working on upper torque box reinforcements (currently only sell the lowers) and subframe connectors that are designed specifically for fox body tbirds & cougars.

Thanks to both John and Andrew for the heads-up. It’s great to know someone has picked up the torch, so to speak, and is producing obsolete parts, hopefully soon for our TCs.

John: I wasn’t singling you out as saving $$ re: your question about the possibly compatible mount (other recent thread). My apologies: I had just finished searching for the info on Chuck’s mounts and read thru many comments about this or that mount being compatible. I did not mean to imply you were trying to make do with a less expensive part.

I’d rate the motor mount replacements as a 7 out of 10 in difficulty—it can be done with the engine in the car (it helps if the transmission/bellhousing are removed, as mine were), and it wasn’t that tough, but not something I'd want to do again because I’d gotten the wrong or inexpensive parts.

Is it safe to say that motor and transmission mount replacements are probably a very high mileage, one-time deal?
