unusual stall problem

Sometimes when I am driving my car at around 45 mph and I put the clutch the RPMs will drop like its going down to idle but instead drop down to around 300 and then the car stalls. This especially happens if I am going down a hill in neutral and turn the wheel, once the power steering engages the engine almost always stalls. However it does not stall when I make a turn with the engine under load, any ideas?

Is your car all stock or do you have any mods in there?

My first thought, though, is a possible sticky IAC. Take it off, clean it out with brake cleaner, stick it back on and see if that helps.

That's about all I got. Hopefully someone else can chime in with more.

I'm with Brian on cleaning the IAC as a first step. Sometimes cleaning helps, sometimes a new one is needed.

Possible vacuum leak, how many inches of mercury does the car have at idle? My iac's that I had go south usually stick open and the car idles at 2k. How is idle just sitting there with out moving?

Take off and clean out the throttle body with brakelean and a green scotch pad to remove all of the carbon, fixed my exact problem... I was actually getting good at getting out of gear then braking with the left foot and keeping the engine running with the right, but not recommended and a pain!!!

Note, if you clean the TB which is a good idea. Use only sensor safe cleaner or else remove the TPS first and then put it back on and reset it after the cleaning. My experience is that non- sensor safe cleaner will get into the TPS and fubar it.

Well Ive got a new IAC in there, so thats probably not it. The only mod I have is Gillis boost valve at about 18 psi. Dont know idle vacuum, Ill check today and get back to you on that one. Thanks for the help thus far.

i'd say you need to reset the idle. you should be at 700 with the iac unplugged. when you replug it the idle will raise to 1200-1400. then the iac will take over and lower the idle back down. if your car stalls with the iac unplugged its prob your idle adjustment too low.
