Hi Guys, I want to start upgrading my turbo coupe's turbo system to get a little more horse power . Where is the first place I should start? I see pics of turbo coupes where it looks like they don't use the factory intercooler and seem to reroute it towards the radiator area . So where should I start? Thanks Phillieb

3" down pipe and front mount intercooler is a good place to start.

Consider doing anything in this article that you haven't already done, first.

You have a few options..

http://www.stinger-performance.com/stockparts.html

http://www.gnariperformance.com/product/...cooler-kit

Big NPR Isuzu factory FMIC (if you can find one)

Volvo FMIC (which Idk bout running, I had gotten one from a swap meet and never put it on because alot of people say its not worth the trouble of installing, because they have plastic end caps and cant hold up more than 16-20 ish psi...)

There really isnt a bolt in kit asides from the 2 links I posted. You kinda have to measure/experiment. But you should do full 3" exhaust, bigger fuel pump, gillis valve (manual boost controller)Then worry about a FMIC

But before you do any of the fun stuff..make sure your tune up/timing belt/water pump is healthy and in check.

+1
thorough tune up & inspection including fuel filter

Also, before you start writing checks:
I suggest clarifying the goals you have for the car,
how you plan to use it,
and this will help guide yor modification plan.

for example, if you wished to maintain 'stock appearance' -
there are numerous mods which are completely undetectable.

and other mods which are subtle,
like swapping yur '87-8 IHI turbo for a '83-6 Garrett.

personally I like 'looking original' and modding factory parts,
or using other year factory parts which are upgrades to mine..

whichever way you choose,
almost every recipe will start with getting your exhaust manifold ported.
and ceramic coated..

then you'll prolly want to source a Garrett,
port match the turbine housing to the exh. mani,
and get the turb. housing coated too Wink
