I just got a price on how much its is gonna cost to have my t3 rebuilt, the guy told me 435.00,everything brand new.Does that sound fair? Its a 48/60 and hes putting on a svo housing also.I see crap turbos all day on ebay cheaper than that but I learned a long time ago you get what you pay for.The guy said the reason my turbo went out was because of oil contamination (blown head gaskets). Thanks again!

that sounds pretty expensive for a rebuild.
for 200$ more you can get a brand new T3.
if hes saying everything brand new, then hes lieing if its a rebuild. with a rebuild, its likely the wheels and shafts are ok, sounds like the CHRA and bearing is bad. I've never heard of oil contamination though. sure it can get baked on if a seal is bad but olmost the whole CHRA has oil running through it and if theres any on the wheels you should be able to just take them out and clean them.
and you're right, you get what you pay for.

Not cheap but not real far out of line considering a housing change is in the package. I would find out exactly what new parts, like shaft or wheels, is included in the quote.

Oil contamination is not unheard of. I had a rebuilt go after only 5K miles. I let the place that did the rebuild do an autopsy. They said some kind of fine particles went through it. That was the time I had bought a new oil supply line. but I screwed it up so I ended up putting the old line back on. Since the old line has been off the car a long time, it had dried out on the inside. When reinstallled all the accumulated dried oil varnish came loose and plugged up the oil passages in the turbo. Ergo why many turbo shops will not guarentee a new or rebuilt turbo unless a new supply line is used.

Both fins were demolished very badly,on the cold side there was really nothing left,I never looked at the hot side. The turbo was used though so I dont know if the previous owner did oil changes, let the turbo cool after hard boosting,I did though.I took care of the detonation probs(leaking trans module)The guy also asked me if I ever overboosted it,I told him I had my gillis set at 21 psi and when i was at full boost it was for a very short time,he looked kinda shocked and said "you got 21 psi out of this?".Is that to much for a t3?I dont think thats too much.thanks again!

21psi is nearing the T3's efficiency, but it should be no problem for the turbo, your engine and intercooler is a different story.
since you are replacing the housing, is it the hot side? i have a .63 T3 turbine housing i will never use and i will sell it cheap if you want it (its in great shape)
i also have the compressor housing. all you would need is a good CHRA and shaft. i could even throw in the extra bolts, ect that i have left from my rebuild kit for a bit more.

if your going to run 21 psi, i highly recomend running a .63 housing. with the .48 you are going to blow more head gaskets do to heat and the lack of air flow.
86 turbo coupe (14.12 at 15 psi. sleeper) *gone*

...so you have a V8...isn't that cute...
