Turbo Issue

Hey guys. Haven't been around in quite a bit. Changed jobs, changed hours. I have a question...
What would you guys say of Charlie's work from Evergreen? I had my turbo rebuilt by him over a year ago. Quick fast service, seems to be a knowledgeable guy about the Birds. He rebuilt my T3/04 to stage II specs. I installed this turbo on my new motor which was installed by ASE certified tech. The turbo lasted 3 months and now is leaking oil like crazy! I think it's a blown seal! What gives? The car has been sitting ever since because I was just too frustrated to deal with it anymore. But now I want to get my Bird back on the road.

What oil return line did you use? Was it a stock line or aftermarket. Sometimes people kink the aftermarket line on install, and it causes a backup of oil, and the seals will blow. I did this with my aftermarket stinger line, and blew my seals.I personally only use a stock line with my aftermarket turbo.

Also if the oil return line does not flow downward, it will cause the oil to back up.

The feed line I have is Stinger's. The return is stock. Now, how could the supply line get kinked? Seems it would be kinda hard to kink them. I also was there to inspect that everything was connected to my liking before the install of the motor. Didn't notice any kinks. I remember reading about these kinks and wanted to see if I had any in mine.

He was talking about the return line getting kinked, causing an oil backup into the turbo and then blowing out seals. OR the return line being routed such that there is a low spot in it causing oil to back up as above.

Did you use a new supply line or reuse an old one?
Varnish can flake off an old one and fubar the bearings which may lead to seal problems also. BTDT

Uh oh...I reused an old one I think. Kinda didn't know those needed to be replaced.

Check the shaft for side and end play.

Oh well. So much for wishful thinking. I just checked and there is play both side & end. Side is minimal, but lots of end play. Sad

If either type of play is enough that the compressor blades can touch the housing or back plate, it is too much

Ok, so here is an underlying question....what could make the turbo go out so quickly besides oil backup?
