Somebody was into that turbo. The cooling lines fittings are chewed up and the oil supply line fitting has teflon tape on it instead of thread sealer. Maybe a piece of the tape got loose and plugged up an oil passage???

Nice eye, pete. I had not noticed that, and that is definitely a point of concern. Brian, i tossed out my spare $ for the header panel, gillis and K&N a couple of weeks ago Sad But yes, if it's still available in a couple of weeks i am going to snag it up Smile

Would a crack in the turbo housing allow coolant into the exhaust(hot) side? This would act similar to a HG issue. A buddy of mine recently lost his IHI with some of the same symptoms. There was a quarter inch shaft play. It wouldn't have taken much more for wobble and self-destruction to happen.
1988 TurboCoupe 5spd, 160K miles, original condition, silver with dark blue interior. Beautiful and fun car.
