So... last week i sent one of my heads off the to machine shop to get check and if ok, worked on, like new cam bearing,s spings, the exhuast side milled, the head milled, and valve job etc. well head is cracked in a two valve seats and its too big to put an insert in.
this was a head i recievd with the short blskc i have in the car (Turbo II).
so i sent out the head i took off the car with the one exhuast lave seat in 1/16 of an inch... got word back today that this heat has multpiple cracks and agian to big to fix. so im stuck.....
i been talking to menthos about using a heart chamber head and just grinding the the chamber to make it d shaped.....

but im losing my drive for this engine....
this car isn't right... the frame has been twisted for years and its never gonna stop rusting... maybe it just needs to be a fun car. but i dont have a lot of money. the 2.3 is starting to show it costs and its not fun.
im just stuck. i always wanted a V8 tbird.... now i stil have the 87 which is almost a numbers matching car and in great shape as all the pieces are there and correct. so maybe one v8 one I4..but identical...just a thought dont shot me yet

there is a company that has heads for the 2.3 and im awaiting confirmation its a d shaped camber... if it is ill buy it. 275 shipped, with everything...bolt on ready, just have to ship my core back. but ill only go this route if its a d-shaped chamber.

what should i do, i need support on this.......

What company u looking at heads from?
Also u could alway just get a good N/A head and have the machine shop grind out the heartshaped part of the cc chambers and install your turbo valves into it.

Brian, Not sure if understood your plan, but I wouldn't stick a V* and it's torque in a car with a twisted and rusty frame.

You can't totally grind the heart shape out of the chamber on an NA. You can take some out but go to far and you will find water, guaranteed. BTDT

I got to wonder what happens to the cracked heads this place takes as cores?? Makes me wonder what they are shipping to customers?? http://www.cylinderheads.com/

Timmay, I agree that really bad things can be fixed, but it costs money, big money. I been down that road too with a cylinder head

I'd just go with a N/A head... there are people on TF doing it and they have no real complaints. Just make sure its prepped right and you'll be OK.

I've used N/A heads and not had problems. One untouched and one I reworked the combustion chamber on. It is getting very hard to find uncracked turbo heads.
Pics of my heads the unpainted one is a N/A that I removed the heart shape from.

I also cleaned up the bowls just a quick removal of sharp edges and obvious flow obstructions.

If your against running an NA head, might be worth peeking around in the classifieds over at TF SVOCA and maybe FEP.

This is why I am afraid to have any of my spare heads checked, they all ran, but are they cracked?

sorry pete its me venting.... the car is seriusly workign agianst me. i traded the IHI for a 85 SVO t3 and taking off the ihi i broke a few bolts into the housing..... so im frustrated.
the k-meber and fron frame rails are pushed over an inch, and the car is covered in surface rust underneath.....not holes.. i just upset that this car i resurected from the dead is trying to do it agian....why cant it be christine and rebuild it self.

i found a few heads around and jason found two. just are they good? should i shell out the 100-200 for a head then spend the 50 bucks to have it check and find out it has cracks... its just so many options and down falls. so i dunno what to do , the company i said got back to me.
ill quote myself and them
Me: "Is the cylinder head you have in the auction a d-shaped combustion chamber?
i have a 1988 ford Thunderbird turbo coupe with a 2.3l turbocharged 4 cylinder.
i am looking for a head that has d-shaped combustion chambers, NOT the heart shaped chambers that the non-turbo 2.3 has. "
Them in response:"The sale includes the turbo head. We have a turbo 2300. 800 942 4503 M-F 8am-5pm CT"
here is the ebay auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-THUNDERBIRD-2-3-LITER-2300-REBUILT-CYLINDER-HEAD_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem562f1deeadQQitemZ370157678253QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAcc essories
im looking to see if a car i was offered for a few hundred dallors is still for sale....maybe ill get another engien trans etc and ditch the rest of the TC as it has the ocean/bay area rust.... even tho its a 87 silver blue TC Sad
