turbo gauge and turbo question

i recently picked up my 88 coupe auto and the car had been basically sitting for 3yrs. the PO said when he bought it the turbo wasnt boosting and when i drove it home you could tell it wasnt working. i could barely reach inside the turbo and it felt like it was hard to turn. I figured bearings were seized up.
anyways... today i was out shampooing the interior and such and decided to remove my stock air cleaner, after that, i decided to try and make the turbo boost by brake torqueing, well... now i can hear the turbo boosting and the car seems to have more power but my boost gauge is not showing anything.
Can someone tell me the correct vac routeing for the turbo and boost gauge ? pic would be nice Smile .
Is it possible by me brake torqueing the car i broke the turbo loose and now it works ? sorry for the long post .. thanks.. Phil

See my last response in this post. The link is to a vacuum diagram:

That is as likely to happen as is everything you have heard or will hear in this election campaign is the absolute truth, no matter what the source!

You stand a much better chance of breaking the trans than fixing the turbo this way.

If your boost gauge isn't working, maybe the line to the gauge broke or came off. If it's the hard plastic crap line, it probably broke

well... i dont know how.. but i can reach in there and the turbo spins freely and before i could barely move it. The turbo has no shaft play at all either. I only brake torqued it a couple of times i was trying to see if i could get my boost gauge to work, nothing rash. my gauge wont do anything at all but i can hear the turbo spooling up now. But... i did mess up my oil sending unit somehow, now its leaking out the top of the sending unit, is it a pain in the arse to change it doesnt look easy to get too.

thanks for the vac diagram pete thats exactly what i needed..

Nah, thats common on the sending units. When they get old that happens. It takes time but its possible to get in there with a wrench or you can use a strap wrench or an oil filter wrench if you have one handy.

Pete used a crows foot but had to notch the extension for it to clear the lip.
