Alright friends, I turn to you for some wisdom...
On my 84tc 5spd the clutch was seized. I assumed it was the cable and thought nothing of it when I purchased the car. Well today I went to do the cable and found out its so much more....
Rodents apparently worked their way into the bell housing via the clutch fork access hole. The car had been sitting for 10+ years untouched. I go to pull the trans today and find that the trans wont come out, at all! The bellhousing has moved away from the block about a quarter inch and then just stopped all together. I assume that the throw out is locked to the pressure plate or the input shaft its self. HELP!!!

I would soak everything in pb blaster, and let it set, then try again. most likely the input shaft is stuck on the clutch disk. also spray the dowel pins too.

Well I got it out tonight. It turns out the input shaft was locked in the clutch disk. I had to remove all the pressure plate bolts and pull everything out. Once out I discovered where all my hood liner went... The throw out was seized on the input shaft housing, housing also broke. So my big question is... Will any t5 input shaft housing work? I have already located one online.

If we are talking the same part, the 87-88 input shaft bearing housing is slightly different sized than the earlier housing and earlier ones won't bolt up. Very small difference IIRC

I did some reading. Apparently its called a "throw out bearing retainer" I have located some aftermarket steel shank one. says its Mustang 5.o specific though

Yeah, That's how I found out about the size difference. When I ordered I was told it would work on an 87-88. Months later, when I needed it it would not bolt up. Called them back and this time they knew about the difference. They did off a refund. Anyway, make sure what they have will actually work for you. My incident was years ago and back then I couldn't find a steel retainer (vs alum) for an 87-88.

The diff is all in the carrier. Its world glass vs non world class. The bearing on the non is larger then the bearing on the world. Still on the hunt...
