Transmission electrical connection

Okat, so after over two years of my students working on my TC, we're close to having it done. When making the connections at the transmission, they discovered the pigtail coming out of the floorpan won't fit the switch connection on the side of the transmission. As far as I know this has always been a 5 speed car but the plug looks like one from an automatic. Am I missing something here? http://natomessageboard.com/uploads/00001532/plug.jpg http://natomessageboard.com/uploads/00001532/switch.jpg [url]

If I remember correctly that looks like an automatic plug. I cut it off and spliced a 5 speed connector on mine when I converted. One problem I had was that with the clutch switch connected a lamp out was indicated on the system sensor. I plugged the jumper in instead of pluggging in the switch and the light went out, but it will start in gear.

That's what I thought. Maybe my Bird has been converted. Looks like we need to spend some time in the wiring diagrams.

The connector mates with a short harness specific to the transmission. On the manual transmission car the purple/orange and black/pink wires connect to the backup lamp switch on the transmission. The red/light blue and white/pink wires are jumpered together in the short harness. The W/P is connected to the lamp out warning and to a connecter under the left side of the dash near the fuse box. Here it is jumpered with a red/light blue wire back into the connector which mates with a R/LB wire going to the clutch switch unless you have anti theft in which case these wires go to the starter disable relay. If the car was an auto the two R/LB at the clutch switch connector would be jumpered with a light green wire.

Sounds like we are missing a short harness. Thanks for the info.
