Hello, I have an 88 TC auto that I want to swap a manual into. I am looking at buying a 1984 TC manual car for the swap. Will this work out OK?? Anything I should be concerned with.

Thanks a lot.

The 84 Trans would be non-world class version. It will work but finding an WC (world class) version would be a better trans. The same WC 2.3 version was used in late 85 and later 4 cyl Mustangs. There is nothing sacrosanct about it being a TC trans. For more info, see http://www.5speeds.com/t5/
Make sure you get a 4 cyl version and not a V8 trans.

Thanks a lot. I am thinking of buying this 84 TC vehicle to have the parts for the swap. Will all the parts transfer over OK?

Is there an issue with the NWC trans and torque handling as well, for performance builds?

i swapped in a 83 5 spd set up in my 88 AUto. it worked perfect. i prefer the cable clutch over the hydraulic
i ended up swapping out my non-world class to a world class do to overdrive gearing differences.
i preferr to cruise at 72mph on the highway and the rpm was agt 3000rpm which was letting the computer go into open loop and killing my gas mileage. i went to a world class and am now at 2800 at 72mph.
i had no other issues with that non world class trans, i ended up selling it to a good friend and its in his 87 TC.

I was researching this a lot lately, and my conclusion is no there is no strength upgrade of the WC over the NWC. The WC is not an "upgrade" per say but it would be preferable given a choice. The improvement of the later model WC T5 is smoother shifts and hydraulic clutch. Fluid in either was originally Dex II, and is now best replaced by a quality "ATF for manuals" like Pennzoil Synchromesh or Royal Purple Synchromax.
