Trans cooler

Hi! My 87tc as auto trans, can i plug my trans line directly to my trans cooler? The story is that i improved the engine rad with a 3 row and there's no trans line fitting on the new rad.I picked up a motorhome trans cooler(big) and i don't know if it would be enough to cool down the trans.

Thanks!

In my honest opinion...bigger isn't always better. I Assume that your auto car didn't have a seperate trans cooler, but was cooled through the raditor itself?

If you could mount a fan to keep air flowing over it that would help. It might stay cool enough but the radiator lines are important at idle when you aren't moving because the coolant cools the fluid before it goes to the trans cooler.

you don't need the "in radiator" cooler. an external cooler is fine. you're not going to generate much transmission heat sitting still unless you're doing burnouts.

both of my automatic cars have what appears to be either a post production cooler or a dealer installed cooler in addition to the "in radiator" cooler.

Dan the trans cooler in the radiator is also a trans fluid warmer. I notice you live in canada. If you drive in the winter you will nead the radiator cooler warmer. If you dont use your coupe in the winter you are fine as 5.0 so rightly pointed out. We run coolers alone and sometimes in series with the radiator cooler. If you run your coupe in very cold weather with a seperate cooler you have the possibility of forming sludge. I suspect the coupe is a summer car?? So an external cooler is perfect. For high performance bigger is usually better with trans coolers.

Yes my Tc had factory line in rad and also cooler in the front. This year is a road and drag strip for the tc.I did alot of work on it this past winter and planning on racing it with a very low budget.Oh by the way i took the body skirts off the car (87 fiberglass kit???)man that car looks nice now with hoosier on the back and skinny's on the front.
