The auto tranny version came detuned about 35 HP from what the 87-88 5 speeds put out. This was due to the POS auto trans. If you want it to last, leave the mods alone and drive carefully. If you want to enjoy the car, then convert to the 5 speed. Lots of people have done this. The club for people that have converted from 5 speed to automatic is very exclusive. Both members meet once a year, if their cars are running. Big Grin

lol Pete. I have 2 TC's, 1 auto 1 5-speed. I have had the auto for a few years and the 5 speed for about 8 months. The 5 speed runs at about 20 psi. The auto I keep at about 10. I bought the auto with a bad tranny and had it rebuilt about 3 years ago. It's never been 100%. I don't take any chances with it and drive it mildly. It definitely would not take much abuse.

not looking to drag race it or nothin but would like to be able to boost 12-14psi. So does this mean I might as well do a t5 swap? The auto was rebuilt a little while before I bought it but runs great and shifts smoothly. I'd like to keep it auto if I can.

Like I said not tryin to drag race and in the FAQ on here it said they seen 300hp on em. Just wanna crank the boost to 12-14psi which should be what 200-225? Should be able to swap a t5 from anything from a 4cyl ranger to a t5 turbobird I'd say? Any 4cyl t5? I want to keep it an auto though, Just don't want to hafta put in an aod-e and make a tranny mount and shorten the driveshaft etc

Do a search. It's been done with better auto trannys. Probably have to give up the overdrive or at least the lock up. You could probably have the A4ld you have built up to be pretty stout, don't know what the cost would be, but I beleive it can be done.
