I got to make a run to Mass to pick up a TC. Can anyone tell me if we can tow a 5 spd TC over 500 miles with the driveshaft connected. I know your not suppose to. Will it hurt the tranny?

Pete if you wanna keep that tranny happy pleeeease disconnect that driveshaft, and you can just strap it up to something underneath the car so you don't leave a trail of tranny oil for the first 100 miles.Just 4 little bolts, box end of a 1/2 inch wrench,I'm sure you already knew though.Anything over 50 miles you need to either disconnect,or get the drives off the ground,I'm not trying to come off like a know-it-all but I drove wreckers and roll-backs and repoed professionally for about 8 years, just trying to help by sharing the knowledge bro.Good luck with the tow!

Too much fun, what's that mean? That's like too much boost, there's no such thing.

Now wait a minute...what's this about going to pick up a TC in Mass ? Did you purchase a new toy Pete ?

P.S. I'd drop the Driveshaft...it's only four bolts...(and some paint to mark the original orientation....).

Ok guys, thanks for the imput, message received. Already got the jack and the 12 points packed. No I didn't buy a new toy. Les did. And he drove it for all of 45 minutes until it seized up, no noises, no clunks, but locked tighter than a drum. Does this seem like a reoccuring theme with Les' cars? [Image: biggrin.gif] [Image: biggrin.gif] I'm leaving in the morning and with luck I'll be back sometime Friday. This may mean I'll miss test and tune frday night.

Pete,
I don't think it would hurt anything. I've pull a many of standard transmission car with tow dollys and never had any problems. Just make sure it in neutral. People pull standard transmission vehicles behind RV's all the time without dropping the drive shaft. I can't think of anything on the T5 thats different that would cause a problem.

We must have all been posting at the same time. Looks like I've been lucky on the ones I've towed! When a professional say drop, drop it. I think I will next time which will be next week. Hauling in a 86 mustang convertible if it works out from Dayton. Wasn't planning on droping the drive shaft but I think I will now, I just thought it was on automatic you had to worry about the tranny.
