Too many problems

Okay here's the deal...my 88 turbo coupe has way to many problems to describe here but here's the jist of it. My car has a miss in it. I've done all the obvious things. Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ect. Found out that the vacuum sytem in the car is all messed up. I'm going to fix that. Replaced the MAP sensor, O2 sensor, TPS, temperature sending unit. I still have to miss and I'm burning gas like you wouldn't believe. The fuel mixture in it is really rich. Anyway I can fix my fuel problem and the miss in my engine? I'm running out of ideas.

As for the running rich problem, pull the vaccuum line off of the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) and see if there is gas in there or even the smell of gas. If so, the diaphram in the FPR may be ruptured. Even if it's not ruptured, it may be letting too much fuel pressure through. You'd have to check your fuel pressure to know. You could just replace the FPR and see if that helps.

Agreed. Sounds like the FPR.

Wonder why noone recommended for me to check my FPR, hmm, besides timing being off, I may have the same problem, so wheres the best place to get a new FPR?

If you buy an FPR for a 5-liter, there's no guarantee that it is set up to increase the pressure under boost. Make sure that what you buy is either for the 2.3t specifically, or that it says it is "boost compensated" in the description.

First of all, 5.0 and 2.3T regulators are 100% identical. By virtue of how they work (Spring preloaded diaphram), they are all "boost referenced" in a 1:1 ratio. I ran an old 5.0 regulator on my TC for 6 months with no problems, and now I run a Kirban 5.0 AFPR on the TC.

Stephy.... Our cars are mass air flow fuel management, and dont use a true MAP sensor. Our cars use a BP (barometric pressure) sensor, which is virtually identical to MAP sensor, except it is referenced to ambient air pressure, not manifold pressure. Be sure there is NOT a vacuum line hooked to the port on the BP sensor.

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestion on the FPR. I went and put a new one on today and it runs a lot better. Before it wouldn't rev up past 3000rpms but now it goes as high as I want it to. I'm still leaving a cloud of black smoke and it still misses. I'm going to do some messing around with it tommorrow and pull some codes off and take it from there. And probably put a new fuel filter on. But if anyone has anymore suggestions for the miss in it, it would be greatly appreciated!

hmmmm....i doubt the fuel filter is a problem if its running rich like that...you may want to reset the ecu (disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes) just to see...you're VAM may also be opening when its not supposed to...fuel injectors could be going bad or bad already...timing is a MAJOR factor also!!!
