McPhearson is the type of front syspension system, not the manufacturer of the struts. McPhearson strut suspensions became popular when small FWD cars got popular. The McP suspension only has one A arm and ball joint, and the strut is s structural component of the system, as well as a damper. Actually, our crs have a modified McP strut system, since the spring isnt concentric with the strut (the most common system). The other major type of front syspension system is the SLA (short-long A arm) type that has been around almost as long as there have been cars. The SLA is actually the better syspension system as far as strength, and controlling camber change during cornering, but it is harder to package than a McP system, and costs more initially.
Tokico is a manufacturerof syspension components who made the PRC struts / shocks under contract to Ford.
