Today's report....

I thought I'd start a new thread as the last one was getting strung out (hehehe)...

Today I installed an MSD TFI Blaster Coil. It seemed to help more than anything else so far, but not enough.

Then I did something I asked about in the original post but didn't change...I LOWERED the boost back down to around 13-14 lbs. I can't tell you what a HUGE difference it made !!!!!! The stumble is GONE !!!!

I test drove on my favorite stretch of new blacktop [Image: rolleyes.gif] and it squealed 1,2 AND 3rd gears ! Nice smooth rpm rise to 5,500+rpm in each gear !

I guess that means I have the ability to introduce a HUGH air charge if I want with higher boost on my TC. That should mean that if I can introduce enough fuel at those levels the SOB should SCREAM !!!!

For now, I will be content to run 13-14 lbs of boost without the stumble...(yeah like that contentment will last [Image: biggrin.gif] ) !

Glad to hear you got your problems fixed, Dan. So how easy was that new coil to install and what'd you pay for it? I've been considering upgrading my ignition too and have been looking around for a decent coil for it. Does it really make that big of a difference?

So Dan, you think it might be the fuel pump huh?

It was $44.00 and the swap isn't too terrible, however I took the bracket and all out...I suppose that you could just unbolt the Coil from the bracket, but I didn't want to risk dropping those small screws. Removing the Starter Relay and moving the PS tank out of the way is almost a must.

Well I always considered that my pump was too small for my mods...no argument there. I don't, however, think my pump is bad...just insufficient.

Still wierd how it happened only during the 3K to 4.5K rpm range ???

Maybe the fuel system couldn't keep up at higher boost levels

Dan, the 87--88 Turbo Coupe uses the same pump as the 5.0 Mustangs, only 88 lph. Good chance it doesn't have enough capacity for a modified engine(maybe its gettin a little tired?). When you decide to replace it get one of the high capacity Walbro pumps, they are the OEM supplier. Stay away from Carter, just had to replace my 5.0 TC's that was only 1.5 years old.

On fuel pressure regulators the Crane is junk(had one), have a Holley now, it's been fine.

When I had the tc on the dyno at Carlisle the print out showed the car ran really lean in the 3200 to 4400rpm range then it slightly ( not nearly enough )recovered. I have the 255lph Walboro pump but no adj. reg. Thought you might find this interesting. The car also lost power in this range, it just flattened out from around 3200-4200rpms. The hp stayed the same or fell off by a couple hp. Then as the fuel recovered it continued to make more power.

current mods (247 RWHP with r.rear caliper hung up): ported & polished big valve head(1.89/1.59), ranger roller, gutted upper and ported lower intakes, t3/t4 turbo, MSD 6al, MSD Launch Control, K&N filter, Walboro 255 pump, full 3" exhaust with Dynomax Ultraflow muffler, Star stage III ceramic clutch, Tiny Avenger bleed valve

Mods in progress (have, just not on yet): atr header, 65mm throttle body, Kirban adj. fuel reg., 42lb. injectors, Taylor pro wires, 4.10 gears, G.N. intercooler
NO TC and NO headaches.

Dan Glad to hear you have the problem under control. After reading the post from Glen88TC about the dyno readout makes me wonder if maybe the fuel lines are to small and are restricting the volume that is needed to feed higher boost.Shoot he has a 255 lph pump and still falls off. Maybe the EEC can be programed to alow for that?

Denny, just guessing but I think the fuel lines are OK. I know of cars running at Glenn's level or more, still on stock fuel lines. Glenn mentioned he didn't have an adjustable FPR yet. he is also probably getting close to the limit on the stock injectors. Between the two, I'm not surprized he was lean.
