Tire pressure at the track?

I'm heading to the drag strip tommorow and wondering how low of a pressure I can run in the back tires? The tires are 265/40zr18 street tires. I've already run 24psi but wondering if I could run lower. Some day I'll be putting drag radials on, but for now I just want to make the best out of my current setup.

I used to run 24 psi in my street tires. Any more and they wouldnt hook, any less the center "buckles" Thats my experience with street tires. You'll have to play arround with the pressures some to find theyre sweet spot

When I raced my Granada several years ago, I did this: Checked the tire co. recommended minimum pressure and started there, lowering psi by 1-2 until spin either went away or got worse. I found the best pressures were usually within 3-4 psi of the recommended minimum. The "sweet" pressure varied with the tires I had on the car. This was also on a car that was extremely heavy and a V8 that had loads of low rpm torque (351W). It'd spin the right rear all through first and part of 2nd on the street if I wanted to. Its best run w/o spin was 17.79 at 80mph, it wasn't very fast. I'd guess these cars would be similar in terms of the tp range and both sides would be pretty equal with the trac lok. I've only made 3 runs with my TC and did nothing with tp.

Thanks for the responses. I definitely gota play around with it. I only got one clean run in (had other problems, thats another story) and it spun like crazy to the tune of a 2.30 sixety foot. That was at 24 psi and a 4500 rpm launch. If things go good I'll be back for grudge night friday and hopefully some clean runs.

Well I made it back to the track last night and had some good runs, actually my best ever! With the tires at 19 psi and and smokin em till they were the consistency of buble gum I got a pretty good launch. My best time was a 14.79 @ 92.93mph with a 2.04 sixety foot. SWEET!

Next step will be a wideband so I can tune this thing and hopefully get a little more out of this setup.
