Hey all,

For those still running the 225/60/16's like myself, I'm looking for some tire info. Ever since replacing the shocks/struts, my alignment has been off and has ruined some good tires on the outside, and overinflation only helps so much (:

I'm looking for brands, money spent, and if you like them.

-Joe

P.s. I saw some michelin pilot sport's on a GTP today, looked incredible in 225/60/16...checked at sears on the price. 160 a piece. So how bout that Douglas brand!! (:
127k miles in January when I bought it for $200. 138k now. A few mods for more power in the planning. (:

I bought a set of Goodyear Eagle T/R's at Sears about a year and a half ago. The rubber is hard so wet/snow traction cound be better, but dry traction is great. They last a long time too, right now they have 20k miles and very little tread wear. They were about the cheapest good tires I could find, at $88 apiece. On sale. Buying 16" tires is not fun at all!

One brand I'd really recommend avoiding is Cooper. My dad had Cooper Cobras on his Ranger. They were nearly bald in a little over a year. My TC had Cobras when I got it as well. Two of them had big bulges in the sidewall, and they had NO traction whatsoever. It wasn't running right and would only boost to 9 psi, but I could spin those pieces of crap all through first and into second. Now that it runs perfectly and I'm boosting 17 psi, I have to push it to lay rubber in first, and I only occasionally get a chirp going into second.

I recently saw a Cooper magazine ad that showed a traffic jam and basically said "Why pay more for tires when you're just going to sit in traffic?". Pretty much sums it up. They do a good enough job at holding the car off the ground, but not much else.

I've always trusted BFG T/A's. Very good wearing for a performance tire and predictable handling.
Recently tried Michelin XGT's . Wow!
Awesome allround tire for sport touring.
Rain? What rain? Is the road wet?
Balance out nice too. I'd recommend Pilots after trying XGT's

Hi,

Just out of curiousity, has anyone tried any Douglas's or National's?

When I bought the car I had 4 National Renegade's on there, and before the alignment screwed up the wear pattern, they had incredible grip and handling. Have no idea how much they cost though.

Anyone know a good set of 4 tires for under $300? Hehehe...am I asking too much in life?

Cooper makes a lot (if not most) of those store-brand tires. Please refer to my Cooper tire rant, above. [Image: smile.gif]

I'm a cheap bastard, but tires are one thing I definitely would not skimp on. They really have a major effect on ride, handling, noisiness, traction, etc.

For more affordable tires, I'd recommend Goodyear. I'm really happy with mine.
