Timing Help

What would be a good starting place for advancing my timing to? At about 11-12 psi of boost it falls flat and I have narrowed it down to this.

BTW, pics coming of a custom made to fit FMIC. It's made using 2 1/2 factory intercoolers. Very big and sexy.

I think you need to figure out why the engine's falling flat before planning out any more work on it. Further advancing the timing won't help things if you already have pre-existing problems.

Exactly how does the engine fall flat? Is it still smooth, but just lacks power? Are sure you aren't running too rich or too lean (where the knock sensor might be pulling out some timing, even at only 12psi)?

I had the same issue with mine under boost. Anymore than 8PSI, and it would fall off. I replaced the pump and fuel filter, and it now pulls hard on up to redline. My .02

What is your timing set at now?
If the car runs fine to 11-12 psi and then falls down it might be fuel or restricted exhaust,

Currently running 255lph fuel pump, adj. fuel pressure reg., A237 motorsports cam, 3" downpipe, 2 1/2" duals w/ dymomax ultra flows, k&n cone filter, a/f meter, msd 6btm w/boost retard. Timing is set a factory setting.

I thought it was running out of fuel until I installed the fuel pump but it still does it. It does it sooner when I go up on my boost retard. Kinda just falls off then starts surging. I dunno, I thought I had it licked. Still learning turbo set-ups tho.

What fuel pressure are you running?

Try 11-12* on the timing, but I'm guessing that may not do much. If it doesn't, look for an exhaust restriction (cat?)

Just out of curiosity where you running the cam?

Running about 45psi on the fuel rail.
All options listed is how its running. Had a ford mechanic install the cam for me(not much of a four cyl. mech. yet, v8s are much easier) about 2 yrs. ago(one of those swap work for work deals [Image: smile.gif] ).
Oh yeah, no cats at the moment.

45psi is WAY too much for how little boost you're running. Try backing her down to 40 (if not 38ish) and see how she runs.

Was running 16-16.5psi boost, but this problem will not let it boost any higher. It just will not take the boost.

I have tried the fuel pressure at multiple levels and no change.
