Timing Belt

I'm going to say that I feel like the whiney child, BUT....

I got a timing belt from AutoZone, got it on, got tension on it and when I rotated the crankshaft to make sure things worked I could see the belt slipping as everything turned.

I tried it several times and everything is tight, lined up and in good shape. Each time the belt slipped while I was turning things by hand.

I'm figuring I have the wrong belt and I'm about to order one from Rock Auto.

Anyone have a part number for their favorite timing belt?

I got an old Motorcraft belt here with the part number XS2E-8620-HB. that number may have changed but it can be traced.

I have also used Gates belts but I don't have a number handy.

Have you tried looking up a number on Rock Auto?

I got the Gates belt Rock Auto says fits...hopefully all will be well!

I've become very adept at getting the belt on and the tensioner tight without moving the timing.

And I getting the belt off without removing the crank shaft pulley and it was well beyond my patience level. Half a second with an impact wrench and the pulley was loose and off Smile

In the long run, it is probably a good thing that the AZ belt didnt fit. It was probably a no name piece of junk that would have failed soon anyway.

A few years ago Ford was selling Motorcraft timing belts for our TCs for something like $7-8 each. I showed up to buy one and, learning of the price, ended up with several! Let's hope they keep, I think I've got 1 or 2 left.
