^- two exploded views of the throttle body, one of the clutch. I hope to start a collection.

Well, I took it apart today -- it's not bronze, but if I can't find an OEM (or similar) replacement, it soon will be.

It's made with a combination of a thin piece of cup shaped metal with a rubber ring pressed into it -- on the outside of the rubber ring there is a groove with a small spring in it.

My rubber was dry rotted all to hell.

I'm waiting till 8am to call ford..... hey, it's 8!

Well, anyway, I was waiting to call to see if there was any chance of getting the real part, but I guess I'll probably end up taking my tb to a machine shop and having him mill it out and put a bronze bushing in.

Any pro/con's with the bronze bushing idea?

Well, the TB is at the machine shop right now. They are going to mill out the old bushing (the cup shaped thing that the rubber attached to.)

Then they are going to press a bronze bushing in its place. 1.5 thousands clearance is what he recommended, both to minimize vac/boost loss, and to ensure that it wouldn't bind up.

I should have it Wednesday, and probably am paying too much to get it done... But I figure the chances are any used one is going to have the same problem. Somebody in another thread even mentioned that they always leak there.

Well, hopefull, mine will leak no more, and the bronze bushing should last more than the life of the car.

I'll pressure test it again as soon as I get it back together, and will keep you updated on how it works.

If it wasn't for the hassle to get out the original bushing (pretty much has to be milled out, it seems) I'd offer to try to make arrangements so anybody could get one of these bushings.

If you have a similar problem, and want it solved, just take off your TB and take a visit to your local neighborhood machine shop, it seems to be a pretty simple job.

I did think about getting it made out of Delrin (sp?) but wasn't sure about temp's it would see, he seemed a bit leery going over 200-250 with it, but it would give the throttle body shaft a bit smoother action than the bronze.

Opinions on the Delrin?

It's back, running fine. Haven't had time to pressure test it, but it's obvious from the quality job the machine shop did that it's tight enough to stop anything that would matter.

Ended up with a hardened bronze bushing 2 thousands over the shaft size (1 thousanth per side.) The action is as smooth or smoother than it was before.

I believe I need to reset my TPS, it's acting a bit different at idle now.... Or maybe the computer just hasn't gotten used to the lack of that huge ass vac leak it had. (Battery was unhooked for days, so computer is reset for sure)

I would have taken pictures, but there is really nothing to see. It looks just like the original photo identifing the location of the leak, except that it has a bronze bushing there now that's just barely visible.

I did gain 1" of vacuum at idle because of this -- now at 19" pretty steady. I can't imagine how much it had to be leaking under boost. Vacuum should have pulled the seal tighter, and pressure should make it looser.
