I recently replaced the engine/trans in my 87 with one from an 88, and have done 2 oil changes so far, and both times when I pull the drain plug, the flow of oil is very forceful into the drain pan. It's ridiculous. I feel like a Doofus making such a mess, and I wondered if anyone else has this problem. I am going to rig up some kind of deflector to contain the firehose of oil out of the drain hole for the next time. Anyone?

are you doing this with your oil cap off?

You can also have a leak with your oil breather grommet.

i attempted a oil change in my drive way a few weeks ago.
for those who have pick up parts form my hosue now that i have a nice inclined driveway, nice if you put out ramnmspo and drive up them makes the car sit leavel, well changing oil can be a big task as i missed the pan and down my driveway went the river, so i saggree the oil coems out fast at furst then finally slows down, it has to do with teh size of the bolt hole really

I attempted an oil change in my driveway a few weeks ago.

Those of you who have had to pick up parts from my house know that I have a nice inclined driveway (nice if you put out ramps and drive up them to make the car sit level).

Changing oil can be a big task.

I missed the pan. Down my driveway went the river of oil.

So I agree, the oil comes out fast at first, then finally slows down. (editorial here: No shit Brian...it slows down since there is less oil coming out as there is less and less in the pan as it is draining LMFAO !)

I believe it really has to do with the size of the bolt hole.

Thanks for the replies. Here are my answers:

I remove the cap.
There is no 'pressure' behind it (No air leaking around drain plug) before removal.
The 87 NEVER came out with anywhere near that much force. Is the plug larger on an 88?

I will be ready next time with my deflector.

I bought one of those Fram things that replace your oil plud and all you have to do is screw on this little hose and the oil comes right out ...Its slow but if you were in a hurry you would take it to a Quick Lube or something!!!LOL

*tisk tisk tisk*

hey! m not that stupid,i cdant trpye, but nto stupid!
so what if it slows down after wpords ther isnt noiugh gravitional force pushing on it cuase it to go faster. volume verseus the resitance of the hole making the prssure higher, correct?
i gotta find my physics book it expalisn that better, 2 years of physics and i stil fdont rememeber sheeeeeeeeeeeet

but onytthe oil hole, im thinkin of drillign ti bogger and putting ian plug form a older 5.0l, that has the 21mm bolt size, it much bigger and woudl cut down on the presure
