Things to fix before Carlisle

I just got back home from Sacramento. My foot hurts. The cruise STILL does the hunting thing. It will do it between boost and 0" about 3 times then it can't hold much more than 2lbs. On flat road back and forth 0" to 10", or 5lbs - 10" if I'm on a hill. Really sucks for gas mileage. Are most of the late 80's Ford cruise modules the same(the electronics above your left foot)? I am thinking of getting a junkyard one just to see.

I am also not please to find out I have a fairly decent hesitation/miss/timing pull at WOT up a hill. That did not exist on my last trip down to CA in May as I did not have the Forge BPV yet. Rolleyes Fun times to troubleshoot that.

3.73's suck for the highway. Period. Especially when your cruise is not working properly. With the trip minder I can now see I am getting around 24-25 highway. I'm hoping 3.55's can at least do that at 80 and not 75.

Saw the same white 2001 Camry get pulled over twice by 2 separate cops in 2 states. The first one hit me by surprise, sitting on an overpass with a laser when I was messing with the radio and my foot was in it more than I thought(stuipid cruise control). I didn't get bothered though. 10 minutes later a Camry flies past me and that cop was about 30 seconds behind him by then and got right on his arse. It was obvious that he was oblivious until the lights came on. Rolleyes
An hour later the same Camry sailed at an easy 95 past me again.
I passed him already pulled over the second time in Tacoma (See Michael?!) Big Grin . A full back window Raiders decal on a that car really didn't fit. I'm sure the police loved it also.

At leat you made it back in one piece, sorry to hear the trip didn't go as well as it did the first time.

I have the 3.73 gears and I have gotten 32 MPG under ideal conditions. I usually average around 27 to 29 though, and around 20 highway if I'm beating on it. Don't even ask what my city mileage is. Sad

Ideal conditions for me are:

-Staying at the speed limit or even 5 MPH under.
-Short shifting.
-NO boost.
-89 octane or lower.
-Nice dry, cold air.
-Letting the car warm up fully before leaving.. That means at least watching the fans turn on. I usually wait until my oil pressure drops a little though.
-Proper tire pressure... I check my tires every other day, or every day depending on what I'm doing... Don't over inflate your tires, the only thing you're doing is making your tires wear out faster. The only "advantage" in gas mileage you can get by overinflation is the possiblity of increasing the overall diameter of the tire with the extra air.

Thanks Ryan. The first 5 suggestions are good, and indeed part of my trip where I couldn't do more than 65 I got about 29. But I can't drive below 75 on the interstate. Someone will rear end me in California if I short shift and don't allow boost. Big Grin

I hear you. I usually cruise at 75 or 80, unless I'm in a 65 zone, where I usually cruise right around 73 Big Grin

Any chance the cable from the CC servo inside the fender to the TB is sticking / binding?

Are the check valves in the vac lines to the CC servo working?

Is the hose from the asparator on the IC inlet tank to the turbo injet pinched?

Are the electrical connectors on the CC servo and CC electronics pack clean / no corrosion, pushed out pins, etc?

If all those check out, I would suspect the CC servo itself and not the CC electronics above the pedals.

You are wasting gas and prolonging warm up time. 30 seconds to maybe a minute in real cold weather then drive gentley is all that is needed.

I respectfully disagree. I have always run tires higher than the manufactuer (auto company) recommendation and I always get even wear, better handling and tracking and improved mileage. It's a matter of degree, not a question of If. 2 to 4 pounds over is usually good. If you adding 10 or 15 psi yeah it's going to be an issue.

i agree wih Pete if you look at a lower pressure tire your increasing the area the tire is touching the ground which adds rolling resistance. the more air the better i find it really hard that you can streach a tire with air. multiple plys and steel cords stop that. if i had a tire expanding id trash it quick.

Jeff, the cable is free. I do have a smaller ID hose from the IC to the turbo, and I'm not sure if I have it in the right inlet. Does it matter which? Maybe it's not allowing enough flow to create vacuum.
Possibly, also, a check valve is sticking or letting bost in. I need to measure vac at the fitting, and then at the servo (without it connected). I guess if that all checks out I'll pick up a new servo.

I forgot to mention why I think it could be the electronics. When I push the off button..it accelerates until I repeatedly push it.
Same thing with the coast button.

Quite odd....
