Ive been looking around for a nice 87-88 5-speed TC for a little while to replace mine. My car, while being quick, its a POS. The body is twisted, radiator support is cracked and mangled, rear 1/4 was welded in, and is falling apart, door is toast, engine is tired, tranny clunks in 2nd gear a bit, suspension is worn out, its just...a rough car. Not worth doing much with since the major damage has been done. Sad thing is...it has very very little rust, since its been in so many accidents.

Ive been trying to find a half decent 87-88 TC relatively local to me (im in MD, PA, DE, VA, WV would suffice) thats rather affordable, and it seems nearly impossible. Ive had leads on 3 of them, 3 off them for 1000 or less. I show interest, they get excited to sell, then I never hear from them. No replies, nothing. Im getting very tired of it.

What also irritates me, is people selling less than ideal examples of these cars for high prices. I saw a car in similar condition to mine, bone stock, for 1900. 1900 for a ragged out POS. I paid 500 for my ragged POS, and sometimes i feel as if i overpaid.

Im just getting frustrated, it either seems like people dont want to sell them when they post em for sale, or they dont want to sell them because they put rediculous price tags on them.

Prices are going up nation-wide. More people want the cars now then ever. The days of nice $1000 TC's and $200 parts cars are over.

As gas prices go up, you will see the prices of TCs go up as well. Cheap, fuel efficient Ford performance.

People cannibalize these cars for the motors and junk the rest. Junkyards crush anything before 1995 nowadays, the scrap goes to china. Eventually, you will be buying a chinese car made out of scrapped TCs, probably.

The other thing is,pricepoint of $1000 for a running roller may mean it is cheaper for the owner to fix it than to replace it with another car.

I looked for YEARS before I found my mint condition 1987 turbo coupe. I paid for it too also ($5,000), but I love it!

Price is determined by demand. $2000 for a decent, running, driving car is cheap. Take a look at the price of a new car for a reality check. Personally, I'm glad the prices for TCs are going up. It means they are less likely to end up in the crusher.

I got a nice one by finding a automatic and swapped it to a 5 speed (wasn't intentionaly but worked out that way), otherwise instead of costing 2k it woulda been higher and probably sold before i found it...

Here is one close to you that is nice. He is threatening to part it out if no takers soon. You would have to do a 5 speed conversion, but you have the parts and the price is right on this car.
