After fighting this problem for 6 nights I finally got pi**ed and put the old cam back in. It started right up. Final timing tomorrow and I will attempt to figure out why it runs so rich but it is running again. I appreciate all the input. I will see if Engle is going to treat me right on this thing and let all know!!!
Thanks again,
Pat

Did it eat any lobes? If not did you put new lash adjusters in or did you compress all the oil out of the old ones? If you didnt do either of these the valves wont completely shut and will keep the car from starting or if it does start it will run bad. Its pretty common for this to happen when not changing lash udjusters. I also forgot to mention some lash adjusters are .030 longer than factory and need to be ground to proper leangth.

Didn't eat any lobes and I put in new lifters and rockers. When I miked the new cam it was 25 to 30 thousanth bigger than the stock cam. I called Engle and questioned this but they said it was the geometry of the cam. The lifters were stock heighth not the 30 over!

Pat, I'm not convinced that the cam is your problem. Because the 55 has more lift and maybe more duration, it may be aggravating another problem. It sound like you have a fuel problem and that needs to get sorted out first.

I somewhat agree Pete but I did compression and there was none. I suspect the stock lifters wouldn't handle the extra .030 on the base radius. It still does run VERY rich so I am putting the green tops back in to see what happens. I called and talked to Jack Engle today and later e-mailed him to see what would happen if I shorten the lifters .030. This could get interesting. What I do know is that I will never change more than one thing at once. Thus avoiding the doubt as to what it is all about. Thanks again for all your great input, it is appreciated!
