Hey Guys....
Well after having the bearing retainer fabricated, replacing the valve cover gasket, oil pressure sending unit, belt, tensopner, water pump, tstat and housing, ps pump,...(He list goes on....and most recently...ball joints tie rodes, bearing, pads, brake hoses I thought I'd finaly get to drive my TC for alittle while...well the next day I'm leaving my self a oil trail back(maybe my tc was worried I'd get lost)
Now I currently belive that the oil pan gave, its rusty as hell in one spot, the rest is clean  I can't find one anywhere, rockauto has one for the 86.is that the same as the 87? Where do I get my hands on one for the 87? I searched and all I saw was something about an aluminum one out of a mustang, what's the deal with that? I would be interested in any kind of reasonably priced upgrades I can do while in the process while I'm in there

I have a new ford aluminum pan with the oil sensor hole. I bought it off ebay a few years ago and I'll never use it... $55 delivered. I can get some photos of it if interested.

I would interested, since my 87 has the low oil sensor.....not a big deal if that disappeared but i would like to keep it...id like to see some pics
So the one on ebay says Thunderbird 83-86...so the 87-88's DO use the same pan ?

Here are some photos...
You may want to replace the gasket as it seems a little flat in some parts.
I also noticed the end by the drain plug is shaped differently... the stock pan is open in this area and this one is raised... not sure why... Also the red was done by the previous owner
In looking around, it appears the raised area is for access to the torque convertor bolts... there is a plate that bolts to the pan to cover the opening (don't have that, shouldn't be needed) and I believe the pan is from a 92 or so ranger truck.
It has Ford part # E69E 6675C2A on the bottom.

Some additional info I've found out...
The oil pump and pickup are different, the stock pump/pickup hits the pan at a couple locations, but only a light amount of grinding on the pan is required to create clearance. Four of the pan bolts are longer because the bosses are thicker, two front and two rear. The loop on the back of the pan is to bolt to the bell housing specific to that pan. I don't know if the stock (TC) bell housing interfers in any way but the bell housing brace bolted on the back of the engine will interfere and have to be removed. There are two bolt holes that I don't think line up with the TC front crank seal housing, but I'm not certain on that.
Let me know if you want this as you have first dibs, but I have someone else who will take it if you don't.

Still wondering, do the 86's and 87's use the same oil pan? or is it different?

at times these cars will get the best of you.... i have rebuilt 3 of these to driving condition and they have gotten me to the point of giving up. but if you step back and relax its all worth it.
having friend that share the same passion for this rare car is the best thing i think for keeping me going. i just pulled my blue 88 of of the sink hole it has been in for 4 years so i can bring to my house to dismantle it... looking at it and the smell of the inside brought a rush of memories (good and bad) of this car... i still remember the accident like it was yesterday. i vowed to it i would keep the car.. and i am... just it wont look the same.... it will become a different means of a car...
keep up hope. i have a few pans from various engines... 87-88. and i believe its only the low oil sender that are different
