I thought I would have to scrap my exterior body trim/Molding and have to learn to accept it.

After alittle searching I found a few people suggested the metal backing was the cause of the disfiguration. They were absolutely 100% correct.
WOW Smile
My molding is like new again! Its sitting here on the living room floor in front of me looking like a Brand New piece/straight as can be.
I just used a small flat head screw driver to pop up the edge of the metal backing. Then I just pulled it off. Instant results. Try it!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !

If you would have seen this thing before you would know what a huge difference it makes. It was bent like a U and a C and a W, if you can imagine that.

It started out as peel at the edge of the door and fender. After several passenger rides it was getting worse and worse. I got pissed off and decided to just rip the crap off. When I did that it really, really got bend out of shape. I tried to bend it back straight again but it only got worse. I started worrying if I would have to just give up on molding all together. I decided to search the old threads and found just a couple of people suggesting to remove the metal. I figured it can't get any worse. Immediately after I removed the metal it flattened out like warm butter Smile I'm so happy to say the least.

looks good man, im thankful my car hasnt done that, its all original from 88 lol, nothing on it aftermarket or new, besides the brake pads and oil changes lol.

ive been debating since i got the car (2 weeks ago) if im gunna end up painting it or not...paint is what i do so its not the money, its the time lol. but if i do, ill most likely remove the moldings and do what u did. thanks for the info.

AllAboutCars101,...
I would not remove it unless its already messed up. The reason is, there was one well known member "HCOR" who made a comment that the metal stip actually held the LENGTH of the rubber molding. He said that the molding could actually shrink about a inch.
I had no choice in the matter. I was definitly not getting mine to return back to normal unless I removed the metal.
Just a thought to keep in back of your mind.
Good luck either way.

If you remove the molding use the right tool and take your time. I removed all the molding from my parts car and it came off perfectly straight. I laid it flat in my attic for future use or sale. The tool is called ez strip molding removal tool. It goes on an air hammer and is made of teflon and does not mar up the paint.
