tfi/pip question

i think i have to replace my tfi and pip. A few months ago i was driving along and braked hard which killed my engine. After the engine died it wouldnt start up, so i had it towed to a local repair shop. After getting a few opinions i diagnosed it to be the tfi. It was a sunday so i went over to a local autozone and picked one up for abour 35 bucks. I was just reading the article in the FAQ's and realize that this might have been a mistake. Well after the repair shop "fixed" the problem, it has been bucking and idling very rough after a cold start. Now, to replace the pip, can i do it myself or do i have to take it to a shop? The article by dan eaves makes it sound like i could do it myself, but the one by nate a jeff say that a shop has to do it.

before you go throwing $$$ into parts what exactly is it doing?? Is only bucking cold or is the car have to be warm? Have you tried to run the engine codes to try and pinpoint it?

Let us know what its doing.
