My name is Eddie, from east texas. Just purchased an88 turbo bird. It has a t3 turbo, 5 speed, 255 fuel pump, front mount intercooler, a Gillis controller (that I have no idea how to operate lol), blow off valve, 3 in downpipe to a 3in single exhaust. Have to get some kinks out of it. Gonna be a learning process. I can take first gear to 55oo rpms no problems, but 2nd , 3rd, 4th, start missing or cutting out at about 3500 to 3800 rpms.

Welcome to the board. Here is an article on the Gillis valve. I would suggest you leave it as is until the engine miss problem is solved. http://turbotbird.com/techinfo/GillisVal...sValve.htm

If you don't know how old the tuneup is, we suggest you see what parts are in it and follow the recommendations to follow
We recommend Autolite 764 copper or Motorcraft AGSF32-C or NKG # 2238 and the Motorcraft E8PZ-12259-A IS THE FORD P/N,
WR-4011-C is the Motorcraft #. Any good cap and rotor will work.
Gap plugs in the 0.32 range for now.

See the bottom of this article for setting ignition timing, or the whole article for changing the cam drive belt (every 60K) and then setting igntion timing. http://turbotbird.com/techinfo/CamTiming...t%20Up.htm

You ought to what codes it throws, if any. There is articles here, in the Electrical section on pulling codes. http://turbotbird.com/techinfo/techarticles.html

Feel free to ask questions, that part of what we are here for.

Thanks. I'm ready to learn about these cars! This one seems to have a lot of the mods a ready that most people get or want. I've got to get my son's 5.0 lined out so I can figure out why this car starts missing at 3500rpms

eddie, i just went thru a similar situation w/my car. i changed the fuel filter as i wasn`t sure if it was that or the fuel pump as it seemed like it was starving for fuel.after i changed the filter it was better but it was missing at higher rpm`s. took the plugs out and they were white in color which would indicate running lean. put 4 new motorcraft plugs in and back to normal.the problem we are all having is ethanol fuel clogging up everything. fuel injection is better but still creates problems. carbs are horrendous. i run non-ethanol in lawn tractor and all other lawn care products and all my cars with carbs....t

They had a Delco R42LTS plugs, a whitish brown light haze to them, and one was gapped at 35-30-32-34. About to go drive it now after putting the Motorcraft plugs in.
