Is there anything that comes to anyones mind that would normaly cause our cars to run rich? And this i dont really consider a problem but its a chip on my shoulder, the factory temp gauge quit working. Is there something common that would cause this as well?

I will be back next week when something else breaks or quits working.

There is a few things that will make it run rich. The Fuel pressure regulator may be faulty, the ECT may be bad. TPS and VAM can be off. There may be others. Pull the codes.

temp gauge: did the wire come off the sending unit at the block?

In my old 87 the temp gauge would go crazy and jump to full hot sometimes.. I could tap the gauge and it would go back down..

My current 87's was working for about 3 days then quit.. For a little while I could tap it to get it working again but now it's just dead.

I figure it's a coroded connector on the back of the gauge cluster but I havn't had the time to pull it out.

I replaced the tps about a week ago. The thing is that I couldnt figure out what you all ment by .92~.98 volts. Me and a friend tried with a volt meter that was about 20 years old but i just cranked it all the way back. It still runs better than it did. I go check the sending unit. I quit working when it jumped timing one me and we had to replace the belt.

BTW, where is the ECT and the wire for the temp gauge?

I think it's important you set the TPS correctly, as it sounds like you was unable to do so. They need to be adjusted, it can't be just bolted on. I would recommend you get a cheap digital voltage meter. You can use this article for TPS adjustment help: http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/idlet...tment.html

If you need more clear directions, that can be provided as well.

The ECT is the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor and it tells the EEC the engine temperature. It's located near injectors number 2 and 3. It's under the upper "2.3 Liter EFI" plenum.

As far as the dead temperature gauge, that could either be a bad gauge, a bad temperature sensor (NOT the same as the ECT you asked about above), or perhaps your t-stat is stuck and the engine is not warming up?

If the engine is warming up, you can do a simple test to check the gauge and wiring. Unhook the temperature sending unit wire from the temperature sensor (this sensor is located on the driver's side of the engine and down mid-way, near the oil filter), and ground that wire. Briefly turn the key to ON for a few seconds. If you see the gauge move up and peg past the HOT, then the gauge and wiring is fine and the sensor is bad.

I second JT. You NEED to set the TPS.
