Hi just got it running ,88tc engine. but no temp reading , I see the
ect sensor connects to comp. but how does the temp guage get
powered ? also what is the small single pin connector right by the
oil filter cooler about 1 and a half inches long and half inch dia.

The temp gauge sender is the one you described on the block by the oil filter. But that may not be the problem, are all your other gauges working properly? The voltage regulator for the gauge cluster is a POS and should be suspect.

Sounds like maybe the single pin connector might not be plugged in to the sending unit ?
There are two single pin female connectors in that harness. The top one is for the Oil Pressure Guage Sending Unit. The lower one is for the Coolant Guage Temp Sending Unit.
