New member " Rookie Poster" with simple question.
I need to repaint my TC Windshield, "B" Pillar and Rear Quarter Window Trim - The paint is faded and is chipping on the windshield and "B" Pillars. It is time for restoration.
I have an 1986 SVO and have found, via a Fox Mustang vendor, an exact match SVO Grey "Rattle Can" paint. Which I have used with terrific results after proper surface prep and careful application.
Two Questions:
1. Exactly what color is the TC Trim Considered ?
2. Is there a Commercially available source for this Color match, either IN Spray Gun or Rattle Can form ???

Thank you for your response.
My TC interior is has the original Ford "Blue" color cloth upholstery
I am referring to the Exterior moldings - My error for not being more specific as to trim location -
Is "Raven" the nomenclature for the Exterior Window Molding color ?
I have been looking pretty hard at the color and it seems to match up very well with the exterior Trim Ford "Black" color of 1988 GT Mustangs. I have an original dealer brochure, but that is not a very good guide as to actual color.Nor for that mater are my 24 year old 35mm photos taken the morning after I took delivery.
Appreciate your input - Thanks

The original color is the same as the mirrors. You can use black trim paint and it matches perfect. I have touched up the door molding on the "B" pillar with it and you can't tell. That is the color used on all "black" trim parts on the 87-88 T/C's. You can find it in any auto parts store.

Hold on...1983-86 trim is different. It is not the same grey as an SVO (it's darker) and it is not black like 1987-88 cars.
We have an extensive thread over at the Fox board concerning this issue:
http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/show...d-B-pillar
In short, PPG lists these colors:
Flat Gray (Cougar and T Bird) - 33717
Dark Gray (Cougar and T Bird) - 33696
I am not sure that they're available for mixing via PPG anymore, but it's possible that DuPont offers it. That's about as far as we got on the thread. My paint supply shop recently burned so I can't go any further myself...

He has an 88 T/C and that is different for sure than the 83-86. I was just answering the question he had on his 88. I had spare trim parts and tested the color before I used it on my car. Duplicolor Black trim paint matched. It even matches the door handles. I used it to repaint the cowling, windshield trim and "B" pillar trim. With proper prep, works well. Or, you can go pay a paint shop Big dollars to redo it.

zbird & EricCoolCats:
Gentlemen:
Thank you both very, very much for your courtesy, information and input. Extremely helpful at every level.
zbird: --I am an Original Owner of a 1986 SVO -Presently just over 15K Original miles - I found and then used Paint from a Fox Mustang parts vendor for the SVO Grey Quarter window trim. It turned out to be a perfect match- As you stated only after Complete and careful prep can one expect quality results. I did the prep my good friend, a national Model A multi time Champion restorer, handled the "Rattle Can" and it passed the scrutiny of a senior MCA National show judge as being "undetectable from original"
Again gentlemen my sincere thanks for all your efforts on behalf of my son and myself. And of course our TC !!!!

Just watched your youtube link. Incredibly beautiful car. Had I not been able to get my Twilight Blue TC. your metallic grey choice is what I would have ordered.

Thanks, I did alot of work, cosmetic and mechanical, to get it that way. I drive it as much as possible on weekends and when weather permits. I won't drive it to work beause it is a dirt hole.

I didn't see a year specified but '1986' jumped out at me. Sorry if I misread. The paint I usually recommend for 1987-88 trim is SEM Trim Black. It has a very light gloss that perfectly matching many OEM finishes including the Turbo Coupe. I've used it for many years with excellent results and is pretty much identical to the paint that you used on the SVO.
Hope the info helps.
