TC versus Chrysler Crossfire

First let me say that I do not in any way condone street racing, but sometimes you got to do what you got to do. Last night I was coming home from a store about 15 miles from home, and it was such a beautiful evening, I took backroads home instead of the freeway. As I pull up to a red light on a 4 lane divided road, there was a new Chrysler Crossfire sitting in the other lane. Driver looked to be in my general age bracket... 40s. I have never seen one of these cars before, and gave it a good look over. Light turns green, and I took off like usual, shifting into second at about 3K RPM, as I was not planning on a race. I hear the Crossfire wind up good and start to pull away from me, so I thought WTF, no other cars around and a long straight road ahead. He had about 3 - 4 car lengths on me when I dropped the hammer in second gear. Caught up to him by about 70 mph, and we were more or less even up to a little over 100 mph, at which time we both hit the brakes. We both gave each other a thumbs up and went on our own ways. I know nothing about the c
Crossfires. The only specs I could find were in a Road and Track road test summary: 0-60 in 6.5 sec, 1/4 mile in 14.8 sec (no trap speed given), Top speed 151 mph, As tested price of $34,500.

Unless he raced an srt6 (which i don't even beleive has been released yet), the crossfire is only available with a modest 215hp 3.2...; a low 15 second car at best. Not exactly what I would call "bad ass", but an admirable (though ill-gotten [Image: wink.gif]) victory nevertheless.

It's the new dodge magnum that is available with the hemi.

Steve, Road and Track claims 14.8 quarter mile time (altitude, etc corrected, I assume). You are right, it sure wasnt an SRT6, or I would have gotten killed. That thing was small..... must weigh 500 pounds less than the TC, I would imagine.

I gotta admit, I love the Crossfire. The way it looks anyway and the interior. I wish Chrysler would put the Hemi in it, but there doesn't seem to be any plans to. The SRT6 should run, but the price is way to high.

The new Magnum R/T and the 300C with the Hemi are both cars that I would drive everyday. I like both of them and if I could just find a dealer that accepted Monopoly money for cash, I'd own both of them.

Road & Track lists the curb weight as 3,060 lbs.

Also I find this measurement comparison interesting:
The Crossfire is 42.3 inches shorter than a TC but it's wheelbase is only 9.7 inches shorter.

I want a crossfire so bad.....but being 24 with too many cars, for some reason I can't afford a 30K+ dollar car. Also the whole enlisted pay thing does not help either....
Currently birdless, but will get another someday!

BCA, you'll find many cars to be alot shorter in the dimensions of the car vs. the wheelbase in comparison to a TC. Especially to a TC, but engineers are pushing the front tires to as forward as possible and then allowing some overhang past the rear wheels to help balance the front and rear weight 50/50. Personally talking about new cars, i want to see how the new 05 mustang drives..........Love the TC but im about tired of it being my daily driver, and I think im done driving one in the winter.
