I recently bought a 88 TC motor And am going to install it in a 97 ranger 5 Speed. I am wondering about a few things like how to mate the TC Computer to my stock wiring, And How to upgrade the distributor to the rangers stock ignition. Any help would be great Thanks

Hello everyone.. I suspect we will become an active part of this community [Image: smile.gif]
This motor ran well a few days before removal from the TC, and has approx. 115k on it.
Based on your experiences with this engine, what types of things would you advice doing while it is still on the stand? We intend on swapping headgaskets, prbly using the Fel-pro 8993. What other gaskets would be advisable at this time, and would new headbolts be wise? Also concerning the head, what & how should it be checked for flaws that could cause future leaks, ex. cracks, surfaces needing milling, ect.
Any insight you can provide is valuable, and greatly appreciated!
Thanks for reading;

If you have the motor on a stand, I would change the Oil Pan, Valve Cover, Rear Main Seal, & the 3 front seals (Crankshaft, Aux Shaft, Cam) to prevent future Oil Leaks. I would also look into maybe putting on a new oil pump while its on the stand. Valve stem seals is also a good thing to add as well.
Replace all the hoses as well. There are 2 that go on the oil cooler which would be very easy to do whith the engine out of the car.

87 TC - Bought as a Parts Car, & will remain a parts car now that I found the blue one.

Thanks for the info tps87turbo. I wonder if we should be considering the condition of the head when we change headgaskets also, for example decking the surface?
BTW tps87turbo, browsed your profile and saw the TC you restored. Extremely nice job, it looks like it just came from the showroom floor!!
