tall intake on an 87...question

i was looking at my car today, and i have a tall valve cover, and tall intakes, and im not sure if i have the 85-86 throttle body, or the 87-88, not sure if theres a difference

but as i was looking, i realized, there isnt any clearance between the valve cover and throttle body as it is, the rubber coupling for the throttle body to IC is nearly touching the IC

something not right here? i was thinking about throwing an SC throttle body on, since i can get one cheap/free

The valve cover for the 87-88 has an indent to allow clearance for the shorter upper intake. The upper on the 87-88 is shorter then the 83-86 because of the intercooler. The throttle bodies are all the same and completely interchangable. Other then that I don't know what clearance problems you have unless the intercooler isn't mounted correctly.

this shows a bit of the littler clearance i have between the valve cover and the throttle body/intake to IC coupler

That is the "old" v/c. Are you sure you don't have the short intake on there?

I agree with Chuck. It looks like you have the short intake on the tall valve cover. The tall intake will be smooth and not say anything on it, the short intake will say "ford 2.3" or something like that.

yeah, its the short intake

i was under the impression that the short intake wouldnt fit the tall valve cover at all

at least i know my problem

NEW QUESTION!

is there a phenolic spacer for between the upper and lower, that would raise the short intake up? i like the look of the Ford EFI and all that on the short, and i wouldnt need to track down another intake

or expensive for that matter, would probably be great to do when having the intakes guted/ported, and putting the throttle body on

Pete...do you sleep?
