im lookin to get a custom 3inch exhaust from my downpipe to a Y-pipe and 2.5inch duals to the back. the price is crazy to get one made so what im askin is can the fox body mustangs tailpipe section from y-pipe or just after work on a 87-bird. i found a guy for $300 that has the single 3inch back to a Y for my bird but i dont have the cash to have the rest made. i figured that stang tailpipe section would work. its better than payin the $1000 that a guy wants here to make.

The stang systems will work, up and over the axle, but they won't reach clear to the rear bumper because the TCs are longer. What I did is below. The prices are several years old and I don't thing the SM downpipe is even available now
I used a 2.5" Dynamax dual system for Mustangs (GT), '93 and earlier ($299), available from Summit Racing and others. I also used the
long (86 SVO) down pipe from Sacremento-Mustang ($139 + shipping). A
3" hi flow cat converter (Catco from Summit - about $60). I had an shop install it for me. They made up a 3" to Dual 2.5" Y pipe for
it. Since the TC's are longer than the Mustangs the Dynamax system come up short behind the rear axles. This is easily remedied with
some 2.5" diameter pipe. I used stainless steel which I polished myself. Looks great.
The sound is very quiet. Just a small touch of throaty sound. You have to stand behind the car to really notice it. I did not want something loud.

You can get a 3" exhaust pipe from Heartthrob exhaust. It's for a 5.0 Mustang but ask for the side you need. My 83 goes down the drivers side, the fuel lines are on the passenger side. As Pete mentioned they will need an extension to clear the rear bumber.
83 dead bird, in pieces however I'm reading from the book of the dead, should be running soon.

I guess I have something else to look foward to. I've gone back to work and havn't had time to finish but my muffler guy can fix anything.
