T3 Elbow

In measuring the stock T3 elbow from the 84 TC and the stock IHI elbow from the 88 TC, there is a difference of about 3/16 in the diameter. So I will not be able to bolt this directly to my 88 TC exhaust. The elbow from the IHI cannot be used because the waste gate is in the T3 elbow. What do has been done to get around this? I would much rather use the T3 I have since there is no shaft play in it, and the IHI has a lot of shaft play. I want to get a full 3” exhaust, but don’t think that is in the cards right now.

T3, bored .030 over block and bowl blended, harden seat added, un-cracked head from an 84 TC. Ranger Roller cam, upgraded valve springs, CP forged pistons, self-polished upper and lower intake, mild ported un-cracked E6, cold air intake, bypass valve, looking for 3" exhaust.

I'm pretty sure the bolt pattern is different between an IHI and a T3.
The only way around this is find a T3 elbow or order a 3" down elbow from Stinger.

I have the T3 elbow, but it is has a smaller diameter than the flange on the exhaust pipe. I don't think it would seal up, and bolt pattern on the elbow isn't as wide as the flange on the pipe. If I would get the 3" elbow from Stinger, can you conect that to the stock system? The stock down pipe seems to be about 2 1/4".

All you have to do is elongate the holes in the downpipe flange. You just use the complete T3 all the way to the T3 down elbow.

Easiest way to do it is just flip both turbo's side by side so that you will see just what I am talking about when it comes to the T3 vs the IHI downpipe flange. Just takes a big drill bit and some sweat and its a done deal. Took me all 20 minutes to do.

I misread your first post. I thought you were thinking of putting the IHI elbow on the T3. The Stinger elbow will require mods to your exhaust to use. Just do as RDOG said and elongate the holes in the 88 flange.

That doesn't sound too bad. I was woried about it sealing up, but it does seem to make alright contact all the way around. Has it been a comon practice to ream a little out of the elbow to open it just a little more?

No. I dont know of anyone who has done that. seems like it may cause a sealing issue.

Common practice is to elongate the holes unless you install a stinger or custom made DP, and exhaust.
