I guess this should be in the performance section but what is everyones opinion on wheel and trim sizes for a T3-4 hyrid on my 88 full weight TC?

Can I surpass the IHI as far as pullin up to 4000rpm?

I want quik spool up to about 5000rpm tops.

How much HP are you looking to make? If you don't want more than 325hp I would say to go with a TO4E 46 trim with a stage 3 .48 exhaust. This should spool up faster than the IHI. Porting wand exhaust will really increase spool up time. I had an 86-87 GN type turbo (.63 exhaust) and it spooled up faster than the ihi. It pulled to 6200rpms no problem but would only support 325hp max. The 46 trim will support a lot more power. If you don't want a hybrid then a t3 with the super 60 wheel should support around 300hp.

current mods (13.809 at 98.48mph): ported & polished big valve head(1.89/1.59), ranger roller, gutted upper and ported lower intakes, t3/t4 turbo, MSD 6al, MSD Launch Control, K&N filter, Walboro 255 pump, Kirban adj. fuel reg., ATR header, full 3" exhaust with Dynomax Ultraflow muffler, Star stage III ceramic clutch, Tiny Avenger bleed valve, Weld Draglites with M/T ET Street 26x11.5/15

Winter 2001-2002 upgrades - powerstroke intercooler(mounted full size or it won't be going in), 65mm throttle body, 42lb. injectors, custom grind roller cam, big turbo, rear suspension upgrades
NO TC and NO headaches.

I'd be happy to hit 300hp but drivability is important.
The T3 I got is on an 86 auto and it sucks for spoolup.
But my 88 has ported E6 and 3" to the tailpipe so that should help.
I enquired about a grand national wheel and T4 and the guy needs #'s.
I also have 2 TC IC that I thought I could use together.

I would say to get the to4e 46 trim with the stage 3 .48 exhaust. The stage 3 wheel will increase spool up response because it has more levereage to get things moving. The 40 trim should spool even faster but I'm not sure how the power aoutput would be.

I'm kind of partial to teh smaller wheels, because of spool up (then again, I have a lighter car). I'd suggest looking into a couple of books, Maximum Boost, by Corky Bell, and Turbochargers, by Hugh McInnis, and learning a bit more.

But, there are a few things that might help you. Your spool up time is going to be related to your moment of intertia, which is related to your radius squared times your weight (of your compressor wheel). Your turbine will certainly have an affect, and a .48 Stage III is a great set up. You can hit 300 horse with a 40 trim T04E wheel, an S trim T04B wheel, or even a T3 Super 60 wheel. I think that those wheels will all be slightly better for a quick spool than a 46 or higher trim T04E, but that is just my opinion (but they won't have the overall potential). And as you can already see, folks have differing opinions on these things.

But, one thing I will say is to make sure you've got your other little things done, like a nice 3" mandrel bent exhaust system, and a well ported E6. I read about one guy who didn't start getting boost until 4000 RPM with his hybrid (think it was a 50 trim wheel) because he didn't take care of the other stuff.

The GN wheel is larger than all of these wheels. It just isn't a very efficient wheel for making HP. I agree with the above comments. Make sure all the engine breathes good and spool up will benifit greatly. I know of a guy with a to4e 60 trim with a stage 3 .63 and he claims to get FULL bost at 3800rpms. That seems very good for such a big wheel and the .63 housing. If you only want to get to 300-320bhp range then the o4b s and to4e 40 would be very good choices. I forget the s trim earlier.

I will probably be getting a to4b 60-1 with a stage 5 .63. This will spool up slower, but when it hits look out. It is also good for 550+rwhp.

ok, thanx guy's.

So I'm replacing the turbine wheel as well to get better spool up. 48 stage 3
Maybe go with a T3 super60 then.
I do have an extensively ported E6 but I'm not pullin the head till it needs it, if it ever does.
I've become superstitious with this car and LGEA comes to mind alot.

You dont have to pull the head off to put the e-6 on,its not that tough of job either, It takes me about 2hrs to completely swap one. No big deal. pull the water and oil lines off the turbo and move them out of the way, loosen the turbo, and then the manifold bolts, pop the old one out and plop the new one in. IT really isnt very tough, and is well worth the time especially if you are replacing the turbo allready!

Misunderstand.
The ported E6 is already on.
What I meant was I ain't pullin the head to port it to achieve more flow.

I think you misunderstood me, too. I said little things, like ported E6 and 3" mandrel bent exhaust. Those are much less of a big deal that porting your head, and will really help, particularly the 3" exhaust.
