T-Bird in Hot Hod

Our cars are in the newest edition of hot rod. We are number three of the best deals. It says that the 79-87 uses the exact same suspension as the 5.0L mustang. Aren't the '79 models a land yaht?

No the 79s were not the land yachts of the 72-76s. I think the model change for the Bird on the fox chassis was 1980

Yes, the headlight doors are up in the picture. That's what happens when you have a small vacuum leak and the car hasn't been started for several days. They'll close once the engine is started.

Hey ! I had the same T-bird! Mine was used in the Auto shows so it had every single option on it including T-tops. You dont see many with T-tops anymore.

It was one of my first cars. All I ended up doing to it was a dual exhaust and a carb&intake.

The ironic thing (if you know me) is that I got rid of it over wiring problems!

i don't have the T-Top option. Instead i have the power moonroof option.

I've got a '77 with the 351M. I bought an original owner's manual for my car off of e-bay. The manual states that the headlight doors (even when brand new from the factory) would go up after an average of a couple hours since the car had run last. Just thought I'd let you know.

i actually know the '77 - '79 T-Birds well.

That's what the book says. But i've got 2, had 3, other '78 T-Birds here.

Both are '78 T-Bird Town Landau editions with the 400 v8. Both will keep the headlight doors closed for several months without being started before the headlight doors will open on their own.

Heck, one of them hasn't been started since last fall, and now the headlights are just now beginning to open. That's the longest i've ever seen one keep them closed.

The other '78 T-Bird that we used to have, a base unit, would keep them closed for about a week before they opened.

As far as my Heritage, it takes about 1-2 weeks before they start to open. i do have a vacuum leak in the headlight controller.

So, i've never had them open in a few hours as the book states.

i say if yours opens that soon, or they don't close at all, you have a vacuum leak or the vacuum lines are wrong.
