i don't seem to be able to sale my bird and am just about ready to give up and either junk it or do a trans swap.

if i do the swap i have the trans i mite use already. it is from a 93 2.3 8 plug mustang. what all would i have to do for this swap. i have done ones in the past but they was older cars without computer. is there a way to run the auto trans without getting a new computer like you would for the 700r4 trans i know there is a type of bypass you can make. i know why would i want to swap and good T-5 for a weak auto trans? well i can no longer drive a 5spd and need a auto trans. i have a bad back and damage in my left leg so it makes it hard for me to drive a stick. i most of the time can not tell where my leg from the nerve damage in the leg and it makes it realy hard to drive the car and it is my daily till this became a big problem for me. so i either need to sale the bird or swap the trans out for a auto trans and i realy don't want to scrap it cause its a great car buit if i have to i have to but i will keep the turbo and find me a ranger 4pooper to put it on. but please tell me everything you can on this swap

thankx for the help all

if you want to know the price on the bird its 1300 firm and i can send pics if you ask its also posted in the for sale area

I'm not familiar with the A4LD tranny in the newer Stangs, but the '87-'88 pony uses a different valve body than the TC unit... Know this for a fact, because my original TC A4LD went into a friends '88 Stang and he had to swap the valve body and electrical connector to use it...

Unless the later Stang trans is like the earlier TC unit, you can't use it because the NA Stang computer will not work in a TC... Also you'll need a TC A4LD drive shaft and the auto cross member(that much may be the same in the Mustang), plus the auto wiring harness... C3 or C4 trans are more conventional and require less changes(though I believe they are slightly different in length to each other, guessing the C4 is same length as the T5)... A C6 ain't happening on a 2.3 without MAJOR fabrication...

why do you say that? there are C6 trans behind 302s and thats the same bell as the C4s. so it should work just have to cut the drive shaft down i'm sure itz alot longer then the T5 is.

so your saying the only strat bolt in is the A4LD from the tc and i would have to get another computer and wireing harnes?

if i did the C4 i would have to get the plate i have read about on other posts? where would i go to check out the priceing for the plate? what about gas mileage with the C4 3 speed trans? would it be alot lower since it is a 3 speed and the gears in the tc is a 3:55 i think?

man the more i think about it i should just send the dang thing to the junk yard and take a big loss on it since no one seem to want the darn thing. here are pics of the car for anyone that want to see the stupid thing

The bellhousing is NOT removable and is part of the transmission on the C6... Only three factory bolt patterns exist... Small block, fits the 3.8 & 4.2 V6, 4.9 I6, and the Windsor V8s(5.0 & 5.8)... Old FE big block(332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, 428) and the 385 big block, which includes 460, 429, 400, and the 351M... One was never manufactured that will bolt to a 2.3, or any other 4cyl...

I honestly don't know about the C4 flex plate, but often different transmissions require special plates due to converter design...

The earlier automatic TC all had 3.45 gears, I suspect you'd give up 3-5 MPG on the highway without the OD...

TCKnight76, see your PMs. I would be willing to trade my A4LD and related parts, just shipping would be the issue. My A4LD is fairly new and I can't find the T-5. I'd be happy to help if I can.
