The circumstances:
1. My tranny is starting to slip a little and it also takes a few seconds for reverse to engage. The fluid is pretty dark and smells a little burnt. (93,000)
2. A friend of mine runs a junk yard and called me this weekend to say he took in a 88 5 speed car missing the hood and header panel that I could strip for parts..
Soooo.. I'm interested in converting my auto trans car to a 5 speed and I'm looking for the specific parts I should be concerned about getting off this salvage car.
Here's the list I came up with, please add to it as needed.
transmission w/ bellhousing
flywheel ?
crossmember
computer ?
pedals
shifter
driveshaft
cables from clutch pedal
clutch cylinder ?
I'll need to buy a clutch/pressure plate/TOB and I'll replace tranny fluid and u-joints as preventative maintenance...any other new stuff to buy?
He's also going to let me have the head and both manifolds as well as the drivers seat.. Everything for $100 to cover his guys labor to remove everything for me. Too good to pass that up [Image: smile.gif]
Anything else I should have them take off the car for the swap or any tips from those that have done this swap before??
Thanks~!
